I don't get the obsession with warming up the car before driving in the winter. We all know that with modern fuel injection we don't need to do that for the vehicle, right? People complain how 2 minutes of congestion increases air pollution but think nothing of idling for 10-30 minutes.

Remember when a portion of the neighbors took to the law to try to preserve this view and block more hosing here?
The other direction. The Witch's Hat tower is looming back in there.

Many have intuitions about how well or poorly Minnesota voter registration is managed. They would welcome data substantiating those intuitions — and they might even accept data showing they were wrong. A few temperate souls may even be reserving judgment. Few know what is coming.

I named my fists Bess and George to punch the hive when Spelling Bee won't recognize "titian" as an appropriate description of Nancy's hair.
I named my fists Tigris and Euphrates because they're going to make a Mess o' something
I named my fists the Loggins and Messina because they will softly rock you

A detailed investigation into how 3M's innovative technology has been poisoning our drinking water with forever plastic-based chemicals since the 1970s. A great long read. Stellar journalism.

A city is the most advanced living organism on the planet. Multiple circulatory systems and nervous systems and waste systems all stacked on top of each other at a scale of miles and I don't know how to communicate the miracle of that. Miracle is the only honest word for it.

Wow. What an awesome giveaway.
At last weekend’s (very fine) MSO concert, UW’s Art History Dept. set up a table and gave out slides of paintings formerly used in survey courses.

I snagged one for Manet’s “Woman with a Parrot.”

My kid's new principal has a plan "(i) to cultivate personal agency in students while (ii) providing an environment of greater accountability, [and] (iii) to support their participation in extra-academic programs that provide holistic enrichment (e.g. sports, theater, etc.)" The plan, you ask?

Well, they showed you a statue, told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
Aw, but they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done
Well, only the good die young
That's what I said
Only the good die young
Only the good die young
Oh, thunder only happens when it's rainin'
Players only love you when they're playin'
Say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know

This is bizarro world. Nothing good can come from keeping Cindy Martin in a leadership role. How can the DFL not see that?
the DFL constitution, bylaws and rules committee (CBRC) is meeting now. cyndy martin has a motion to remove dan thomas commins as secretary

cyndy martin is the DFL officer facing criminal charges for killing a teenager with her car

Don’t forget failing to defend academic freedom. She was a tool for one job, failed at that, time for a real leader.
Rebecca Cunningham should resign. She was brought in because of her supposed expertise to negotiate a deal for the U hospital and medical school and has made a complete hash of it, while increasing admin spending. She's failed us.

Teenagers get the worst end of the stick every time. 15-year-old accused of a horrific crime = adult. 15 -year-old victim of a horrific crime = adult. 15-year-old wanting to ask medical questions of their doctor = child. My son, 17 years and 10 months, can't get a flu shot on his own.
NPR used to be a place left leaning folks could look at and to.

But now they refuse to call teenaged girls children. The underage women line is toxic and horrible.

Underage women are teenagers at best, but they're children. They're children.

All this leftover talk reminds me of when I met my German husband. I invited him to dinner. He ate it all. I made more next time. He ate it all. I made even more the third time and implored him to leave something for lunch. He said, "Oh, thank god. I didn't know how I could politely not finish it."
