We had a hilarious trick-or-treat moment. A little boy, dressed as a Power Ranger, was super excited and happy to be called a hero (he told us and we agreed) and get TWO pieces of candy that he gave me a big hug and a kiss. I was surprised and said thank you. (1/2)

Challenge: Post your last photo of DC to show what a hellhole it is. Not my last photo taken in DC (phone disaster), but one of the few I have readily available.

Me, first opening Bluesky: Why are there all these takes about radioactive material in my feed this morning? (NB these takes range from excellent to weird to just plain wrong.)

Me, after scrolling a bit: Ooooooh.

Hey 🧪 Science Feed (and #Chemsky)! Posting for the designer. 🙂
I'm searching for people who love science and Lego to share and SUPPORT my Lego Ideas Periodic Table project so it can become an official Lego product

Anyone doing imaging/microscopy work want to write a wish list of free and low-cost dyes? Luke is AMAZING, super smart, super nice, and a general wizard with dyes and probes. 🧪
Hey #chemsky and beyond, with all that is going on, I am curious what expensive, high margin molecules we could provide to the community for free. What things do you use all the time, cost way too much, and would make a difference? Alexa Fluor 488 NHS? Other dyes? Other molecule?

Today in “why am I like this?” I decided to have friends over to help me optimize mushroom ravioli and egg nog (their job was tasting). 18 possible ravioli/sauce/garnish combinations, 4 nogs, two chocolate shortbread versions #ChemistsWhoCook

Phenomenal work - 3 year relapse-free rates moved from 80-85% up to 97.5% in kids with average risk of relapse. This type of leukemia is the leading type of cancer in children. 🧪

Hey hey #Chemsky! 🧪

I'm gonna see if this works better than the other place to look for expert comments 🤗

I need someone who works in chirality and proteins for a story I'm working on - my DMs are open 📬

Reposts appreciated to boost visibility! Thanks 🙏🏼🔄

I’m so happy this finally is out in the world. 🧪

US folks, TB is extremely rare in the US but sadly common worldwide. Treatment is grueling and antibiotic resistance is a huge problem. Shameless self-promotion:

I went back to my undergrad university to attend a symposium celebrating my (beloved) advisor’s 80th birthday. How did I not appreciate this Art Deco glory when I was a student? #ChemSky

I’ve been working on a route to [18F]-L-DOPA, and when anyone asks me about work, I’ve been telling them I am TRYING to make dopamine, but it’s not working well, and I’m kind of stressed about it. I think it’s hilarious. 🧪 #Chemsky

A novel twist on the typical nightmare: I’ve attended classes all semester, but somehow I’ve messed up the finals schedule and have missed nearly all of them and am about to fail most of my courses. Thanks, brain! Nice of you to mix it up every now and then!

Hey, Science feed, want to get better about communicating your work? 🧪
Alright, a lot of people on other platforms have been asking me for a science communication course... I'm thinking of making one! Is anyone on BlueSky interested?

🧪Entomologists, we are having a banner year for fireflies in the upper Midwest. What would be the best place to go watch a light show - forest, pond, prairie, etc? (Our front yard is pretty great, but we have a lot of nearby protected land.)

Oh my goodness. So many horrors in this report - WITH a concurrent announced inspection. #ChemSky 🧪
🧵 In 2020, I nearly died from mysterious industrial chemical exposure at my apartment. Later, I discovered my employer was dumping toxic waste into our windows from their Skunkworks semiconductor fab next-door. I tipped off US EPA, who then raided them in 2023. EPA sent me the report on Friday. 💀 ⬇️

@somechemist.bsky.social and I volunteer at a local cat cafe. There are two bonded sisters who are incredibly close. I caught them taking synchronized baths on connected perches yesterday. They even adjusted poses in sync.

🧪 Interesting study - organic farming maintains/increases biodiversity in barley vs conventional methods. I feel like I have to be extra skeptical since it seems to confirm my personal prejudices - what did I miss?
Long-term study finds organic farming leads to adaptations in the genetic material in plants
Plants adapt genetically over time to the special conditions of organic farming. This has been demonstrated in a long-term study conducted at the University of Bonn.

These are ads I come across occasionally. I don’t think they are AI (although it’s possible), but they always catch my eye in a “what’s wrong with this picture” kind of way. If I had organic chem lab students, I would be so tempted to spend a day dissecting these. 🧪 #Chemsky

A friend asked me whether I thought radiopharmaceuticals would have staying power vs being trendy. Hard to predict the future, but this is such a promising result. 20% survival at 1 year, 10% at 2 years vs 0% in control in AML. 🧪 #ChemSky
