Pretty much.

I think a lot of cis people, even allies, don’t really understand that we’re not doing this for fun.

So they think if they just make it inconvenient enough to be trans, we’ll all go “okay, fine, whatever” and stop, and then there just won’t be trans people and we can all move on.
cis people do know that they don’t *actually* want us “using the bathroom of our assigned sex at birth” right? it’s to make us feel unsafe using *any* bathroom in public as a way to make us unsure about heading out into public *at all*

We are living in some dark times, and there’s a lot of awfulness all around. But today I got to see my kiddos connecting with others and having fun as their genuine selves, and it was beautiful.

Every decade, we hear "the kids can't read or write!"

Interventions that don't work are proposed. Those that do work are ignored: reducing class sizes, making kids & families feel safe at school and welcome, becoming a community resource.

When their expensive reform fails, they yell at us again.

Exciting news of the day: the cabbage I set to ferment on Wednesday is starting to smell like sauerkraut!

Every time I make sauerkraut, I think “I should get a proper sauerkraut crock or other setup” but then I remember I do this MAYBE once a year, I don’t need a unitasker cluttering up my kitchen.

People are in denial about how quickly they could become disabled, unhoused or food insecure

It can happen to anyone & it can happen in an instant

Folks act like those receiving assistance have failed

That they should “try harder”

The system is rigged. It’s failed us, not the other way around

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

Thanks to symbols that are WAY TOO SIMILAR, I had to redo a chunk of it. 😩

Get all the stuff set up to brew my morning coffee… and forgot to turn the kettle on.

It is unfair that I have to make the coffee before I have my morning coffee.

Acting like "home-cooked meals" are some sort of universal moral good and that street food and prepared fresh food is some sort of luxury that only people with lots of money should be able to access.

Really pisses me off.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.

Today I got up early and hustled on over to a routine medical appointment and then did errands afterward and I would just really like a sticker or a head pat or a cookie.

My brain is firmly in “don’t wanna” mode when it comes to everything so sadly accomplishing so much before noon is a big deal.

All I can think of is that series The 100, where Earth was ravaged by nuclear explosions after a rogue AI figured eliminating humans was the best way to solve the climate crisis.

(Sorry if I just spoiled a show that premiered 11 years ago.)
Every time a tech entrepreneur says “we don’t need to stop global warming because AI will” I want to slap them with a fish that says, “if a superhuman intelligence came into being and we asked it how to stop global warming, it would say ‘stop burning fossil fuels, you fools.’”
I’m going to regret asking this, but… what mechanism are people proposing whereby AI will “end scarcity”?

This feels like literal underpants gnomes thinking, and as I never tire of pointing out, it’s being driven by a lot of the same actual people

Cursed Cross-Stitch update: walked to the craft store and FINALLY obtained the correct color (3817). Burned my (non-dominant) hand last night while making dinner. Husband forgot to print the pattern pages yesterday while in a place with working printers.

Occasional reminder: Elon Musk’s -very- first move when Trump handed him the keys to the federal government was to smirk about spending a weekend ‘feeding USAID into the wood chipper.’

He should be remembered as a racist mass murderer and nothing more.

The missing skein has been located. In my searching last night, I failed to account for CATS. They had run off with it and had it mixed in with their toys. Sterling continued to try to “help” while I untangled it.

The cursed cross-stitch continues to live up to its name. Somehow (despite being so careful!) I lost one skein of embroidery floss. And missed ordering another color entirely. Sigh.

Trying to psych myself up to walk to the craft store tomorrow, since supposedly the colors I need are in stock.

Some positive package news: the missing package not only arrived, but had ALL OF THE ITEMS I ORDERED. Such novelty, what a delight!

Also the replacement for the broken birthday candle for my younger child arrived. My kids somehow became obsessed with big number candles, I’m happy to indulge them.
