The city’s detention fee ordinance + sanctuary city rules look even smarter in combination with Attorney General Rayfield’s cease-and-desist letter to the Feds.

Our legal power to resist is at its height when different levels of state and local government maximize their respective powers.
Here is a FAQ sheet that will clarify what Portland City Council does and doesn't have power to do in relation to revoking the Macadam ICE permit.

TL;DR:
(1) CC cannot unilaterally revoke the ICE permit;
(2) CC cannot lean on PP&D to do it;
(3) the CC is exercising its authority in other ways.

The connection between Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the USA’s murder of Venezuelans is the desire on the part of both states and their fascist leaders to exercise unchecked power, including the power to kill at will without justification or consequence. We should all be frightened.

The White House’s new anti-media website includes denunciations of:

-ABC, which bribed the president
-CBS, which bribed the president and moved away from fact-based journalism trying to appeal to him and his fans
-WaPo, which spiked a Harris endorsement and tilts coverage in Trump’s favor

Fools.

No more pretense or excuses. Trump and his team have made the white supremacist foundations of this project explicit and clear.

If you enable this you need to face who and what you are. But you can always choose another way.

Choose humanity. Decency. Equality. Democracy.
To make common cause with this Administration is to support an affirmatively white supremacist vision of this country. Period.

Every corporation.
Every Republican.
Every influencer.
Every Governor.
Every evangelical leader.
Every voter. Yes. Every voter.

Opportunity cost is a huge consideration - always. Especially when the tactic one is choosing may be more performative than substantive.

I hadn’t really thought about it until today but the fact that transit police have their own special branding and separate force probably contributes to the narrative of transit being disproportionately unsafe, which is frustrating given that it’s drivers who are killing people.

a PSA: most nonprofit newsrooms right now are probably participating in the NewsMatch program RIGHT NOW. That’s a program funded by a few foundations that “matches” your end-of-year donation.

If you set up $10 monthly, that literally unlocks $120 from NewsMatch.

So who could you support?
i promise i don’t mean to high horse this but if you’re thinking about giving lizza ten bucks there are a lot of good independent journalists whose work you could subscribe to for a month instead

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

David Axelrod stating on election night that Wilson had lost wasn't just premature and worthy of a "gotcha." It demonstrated a shocking lack of awareness of how Washington state elections work (esp. with all mail-in ballots).
Local media is calling it: Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle.

Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger.

Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.
