The English will put in a system that harms 10000 to stop 1 taking the piss, at the cost of helping 100000.
Chief executives are amazingly far out of touch with the public on this. They're cynically underpaying NHS staff, amid rising flu, like conservatives trying to wreck Christmas retail sales by underpaying workers. It's tin-eared.

That Vodafone advert on YouTube, I hate it.

"Its not my phone, its your phone, check your phone!" in that tone annoys the fuck out of me.

I have dealt with people like that far too often. They don't listen, they don't want to work together to solve a problem, they just want to blame you.

the far right are going to take over this country and the only thing about that that isn't bad is going to be watching all the 'centrists' that enabled it get got.

it's going to be horrifying in all the ways you can imagine, and in ways you can't, but the schadenfreude will be massive.

When you think about it, people calling me silly on BlueSky dot com is the same as a lifetime of systemic institutionalised bigotry. I am very smart.
I am that here, at this moment, though. What's different? Someone has a different view, or lives their life differently, and the insults fly. That's what is happening to minorities - you are no different unless you choose to be.

Hearing Rory Stewart, Marina Hyde and a selection of sentient Labour briefcases are turning red and screaming "technically a two year old is a toddler!" as a reason to uphold the status quo of this horrible, racist practice.
Two year old babies have been tear gassed.

Police shredding people's tents and taking their wood - the one source to heat themselves - in freezing conditions.

People are not allowed to stay. But they're not allowed to leave.

Do not follow me if you’re still defending Keir Starmer, a man who literally wants people like me and my friends to become non-existent in this country. A man who has facilitated the genocide of our friends abroad. A man who will more willingly help a fascist than a trans person or disabled person.
‘Inoffensive man’?

He’s condoned and abetted a literal genocide and actively promoted fascist rhetoric. Chalk that down as two reasons why he’s ‘viscerally loathed’

"work is not a requirement of entry, but it is a requirement to settle" may end up becoming one of the home office's most preposterous rules
ah just realised where they hid the new earning requirement for the visa holder. essentially they don't make it clear that Sarah is working, whereas he is not bsky.app/profile/pape...
also just noticed the spouse slide doesn't mention the proposed 12k earnings over 3 years (or whatever it is), which if not met would tank that settlement figure to "not currently possible, lmao"

Slides from a Home Office presentation for employers on “earned settlement” — note the case studies: they explicitly play the “good migrant” versus “bad migrant” narrative. Guess which category Sarah, the American, is placed in?

Innocent people end up in our criminal courts.

Completely, terrifyingly innocent.

And all that stands between them and losing everything is a fair trial.

Politicians would do well to remember this when they tell us that justice is all about processing “criminals” swiftly.

Similarly if the UK 'curtails' human rights for immigrants, who else do you think it impacts?
just going to reiterate this.

if immigrants don't have due process, no one does. you can't tell citizens from immigrants without due process. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/if-immigra...

So what if they weaken ECHR human rights protections? So what if they interpret protection from torture differently? Will that improve services? Help the NHS? Bring better food, air & education? Eradicate poverty?
Crushing rights is the most destructive distraction from the wrongs that need fixing.

it's outrageous that visa routes with no work requirement, and already tied to the british sponsor's earnings, now have an additional, out-of-the-blue earning requirement added on top. also the home office are raising language requirements, but "bradley may not eligible"

the reason they want kids banned from social media is bcos:

white kids meet Black kids
straight kids meet gay kids
cis kids meet trans kids
abled kids meet disabled kids

it's much harder to create a society of angry and bitterly divided adults if the kids they used to be are immune to the bigotry.
