When 97% is 'no clear consensus', and 52% is 'the will of the people', it's time to face facts that Governments do what Governments want to do regardless of what their people actually want.

The pinnacle here of a decade of wealthy, very right wing crackpots squealing about being oppressed by the people they are bullying and harming, while opportunistically suing the piss out of any critics they think they can beat in court.

Mears, Serco, and Clearsprings oversee most asylum accommodation in UK and make huge profits doing so, despite a significant proportion of accommodation being substandard. It isn't people seeking safety costing taxpayers money, it's the firms making profits off of them.

Mears: Life in the asylum hotels generating 'excessive profit'
Asylum accommodation provider Mears has had to return £13.8m to the Home Office after making more profit than its contracts allow.

That’s the thing about Trump: he has no positive virtues at all. He isn’t hard working or dedicated, he isn’t fun or generous or decent. He isn’t kind to children and animals: he appears to despise most of his kids. Even when he’s funny - which he can be - it’s usually because he’s being cruel.

Just remember, Trump is unloved & despised by all around him. He destroys everything he touches whereas Rob Reiner made the world an easier place to deal with because of the joy his films gave us.
He believed in people respecting & helping each other.
Trump knows that and hates it.
Fuck him.

Hell, this might actually reflect the full sweep of acceptable opinion in British media circles now: a deeply unpleasant single-issue wingnut; a dull-as-fuck driving gloves Tory and a malicious fascist crackpot.

Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

The public inquiry into the Iraq War was as damning as it’s possible to be within this system. The parliamentary report on Libya tore the government a new arse. Both of them were instantly thrown in the bin and never mentioned again, in favour of inviting the culprits on TV and giving them peerages.

The fact you can't tax billionaires without them sinking millions and millions into pushing fascism kinda provides the exact reason that billionaires shouldn't exist.
