Very interesting to see the game industry talk about this phenomenon as 'deprofessionalisation'. Definitely more visible now in the wake of all the layoffs, but really this has been unfolding for 15+ years now as both platformisation and gigification.

The 'deprofessionalization of video games' was on full display at PAX East
PAX East felt like a warning: explosively successful games by solo devs and small teams are great, but it could lead to a dearth of vital specialists.

Getting laid off is really starting to sink in and bum me out today — Friday was my first day of being unemployed, but I had previously taken that day off, lol — so to make myself feel better, I and my wife donated to the layoff fund.

It's at 84%... help out if you can!

Being a leftist is fun because it's mostly you and your buddies very loudly saying "this system doesn't work and if we don't do anything about it shits gonna get bad" only to be told "shut up don't be unrealistic" and then shit gets bad and those same people are like "wow I hope you're happy."

A first-approximation rule is that you can't be "subversive" by looking backward. I think that that's what really rubbed me wrong about the "Republicans are punk and standing up to WOKE CULTURE" shit of the last few years. What does it subvert to try and live like your grandpa did?

Another #artwork I didn’t post here yet. I’m sure it’s pretty self explanatory.

new article. it's about what cozy and wholesome games are, why shitty people like them, and why I really liked I Was A Teenage Exocolonist.

i was a teenage exocolonist (and so can you)
I’ve realized that I’m much better at discussing broad ranging theory than individual games, just because it’s easier to find ten games…

NEW: X has become a hotbed of neo-Nazi content under Elon Musk. We identified the operators of four anonymous accounts that share racist, antisemitic, and neo-Nazi content. Three live in Texas. Musk has replied to two of them. One works for the Navy.

This guy says in the replies that this was 7-10 years ago but it makes you wonder how many companies are still doing it like this with 100% human labor. We already know every AI company is doing this with some degree of human intervention, they just call it “training the model.”

20 years ago we were suing teenagers for millions of dollars because they were torrenting a single Metallica album and now billionaires are demanding the free right to every work in history, so that they can re-sell it.

The law only ever serves capital.

This is a lie, and it's always been a lie. Something like ChatGPT needs a TON of text in the language you're targeting to train the model. You get it by licensing it, or you by paying people to write it for you, or by stealing it. What they're saying is it's impossible to create CHEAPLY.
