In the fall of 2000 I spent a couple months kicking around the hospital while working on Session 9. Unlike most people who've had to sneak on to the property, I didn't have to worry about being buste...

Boy you can just realllllllly fucking tell who's never had to get on the horn with an insurance company huh
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Democrats negotiated a plan where a 8 completely safe dems would vote to open and the rest can post “i voted no” thats what all the negotiations were about: how they would explain the optics of the loss. it was never about saving healthcare

Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Schumer pulling this late Sunday night when constituents can’t really contact their reps (leave a voicemail if you can I guess) or assemble a protest is the only game of chess this shithead is playing. NYC help us and primary him and Jeffries’ asses.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Halfway through and I like SHADOW TICKET a lot.

Interesting that both recent Pynchon projects have a lil' Coens thing goin gon. OBAA, as widely noted, has echoes of Lebowski. And this novel belongs on the shelf with Miller's Crossing in that it adapts the '30s detective story to its own ends.
Only about 10 chapters in, but in terms of writing, this is appealingly vintage-feeling. Some of that is the milieu of the story, but Pynchon pushes back against stereotypical '30s language while keeping his own voice strong. So far, it feels more "Pynchon" than Bleeding Edge.

TLDR; I like it!

we need SportsCenter for SCOTUS

glad there are good explainers for this strategy
KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.

Meredith is KILLING IT. (As is Fango.)

The book is wonderful, but I'm almost more excited about these one-shots, as they have the potential to broaden Fango's audience in a tangible manner. And they're fun! For the whole family!
so yes, MORE exciting Fango news! I've got a snazzy new title: Head of Single Issue Publications. We're kicking off a new division with this gorgeous Frank one-shot, detailing every plodding step of Mary Shelley's Creature, from Villa Diodati to del Toro: www.fangoria.com/fangoria-pre...
