Legitimately beautiful. Burn all of them.
🧵The largest plantation in the South burned down this week.
And the way white folks—especially wedding vendors—are mourning “memories” and “brides who won’t get to have their special day there”?

It’s giving cognitive dissonance.

Because let’s be real...

And to this day, poor CRM ("Crew Resource Management" or "the captain is not God") is cited as a factor in a ridiculous number of investigations, and many incidents have been much better than they could have been because of good CRM.
fwiw: we have already tried the "just let Manly Men fly the planes and everything will be fine" approach to aviation safety

and we discovered that said Manly Men would sooner run their airplane directly into the side of a mountain than admit they made a mistake

This isn't an exaggeration. Before Cockpit Resource Management became a thing, captains who acted like, and were deferentially treated like macho gods of the skies did things like let their planes run out of fuel or fly straight into the ground, and the other officers were too scared to stop them.

Authoritarianism is just domestic abuse writ large. It uses the same tools and the same logic and, honestly, the perpetrators are often the same damn people.

It’s a moral good to offend morally reprehensible people: any time and energy they have to put into defending their reputation or arguing with you is time and energy they can’t use elsewhere. Increase their blood pressure, make them go home and need a drink.
When it's wrong, say it's wrong.

Stop being so afraid of offending morally reprehensible people.

The only parties who will benefit from this grift longer term are the companies who make the hardware it runs on. Literally everyone else - shareholders, consumers, anyone who needs electricity or wants to breathe clean air - will lose.
I'm old enough to remember the last time OpenAI was pledging to build a big stupid supercomputer called Stargate. Nobody wanna talk about this? How stupid this shit is? How absolutely stupid all of this god damn generative AI shit is?

i've made this comparison a lot and i'm glad others are too. because file deletion is a really great example of the naive folk model of budgeting
the problem with tackling "wasteful government bureaucracy" is it's like deleting files from your computer called hostserver.dll that look useless and take up a lot of space and then your computer stops working

Ooh…this is a vanishingly rare example of an actually useful application for a large language model.
Even better: train an algorithm using Threads engagement farming posts to drive a Bluesky custom feed that removes all Bluesky engagement farming posts.

I'd pay for that.

The Post’s coverage today is leaning hard into kissing Trump’s ass. Glad I cancelled my sub.
As Democrats on Wednesday morning digested the news of Donald Trump’s victory, the party was awash with angst-ridden second guessing.

They were also asking a deeper question: How has the party so misunderstood the country and underestimated the voters who are attracted to Trump’s message?
What the Democrats are asking themselves after Harris’s definitive loss

Live a life of luxury in a functioning society or bury myself in a fallout shelter hoping I never need medical help 🤔

Although I'm cautiously optimistic about Biden's reelection, there is nothing fair or democratic about a few thousand Americans in a few swing states determining who wins the presidency.

Just your occasional reminder that the Electoral College is incredibly stupid and needs to die
