The US accidentally invaded Mexico on Monday, storming a beach and planting DoD “restricted area” signs claiming the land for “the commander,” triggering a standoff w/ armed Mexican security forces, all because Trump’s government can’t even identify a border on a map

Warning signs appear on Mexican beach declaring area restricted by U.S. as Mexico rejects Trump offer to strike cartels
The signs read in English and Spanish, "Warning: Restricted Area," and had been declared restricted by "the commander."

"Oh those people care so much about this atrocity? Well why don't you talk about this other atrocity, huh?"

I mean, they do. They do so repeatedly. And even if they weren't I don't think it's reasonable to demand a person list every single atrocity they oppose to publicly oppose one.

Alrighty, here's a pitch: a Predator movie set during the Northern Crusades, where after brutalizing the population of the Baltic a group of Teutonic Knights have the tables turned on them and are hunted down by a Predator.

This is definitely something I have been considering, where ideally a medieval or early modern wargame would have (depending on the time period) a mix of levies, professional soldiers, and mercenaries at your disposal, but that importantly each of these types wouldn't just be one thing.
TBH this is why I never really liked CK3's levy system either, where ALL the levies are just chaff and you really want MAA and space marine knights. Something like CK2, where your heavy cavalry are probably among your levies, made slightly more sense.

Gods I'm a sentimental bastard. I listened to a reading of the Gettysburg Address by Barack Obama and teared up a little. It's truly one of the finest pieces of rhetoric ever delivered.

James Romm's "Ghost on the Throne," about Alexander's death and the subsequent power struggle. I don't know why, but I have always found the story, and Romm's prose, extremely compelling.
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

You know, there's an alternate universe out there where the most famous version of Peacemaker is the one in Watchmen, and the actor most heavily associated with him is Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

On International Men's Day, it is important for us to reflect on our position in society, the immense privilege we hold, and the number of ways that we must dismantle systems that benefit us at the expense of other genders. We can still be men without exploiting women; indeed, we will be moreso.

I have a few suspicions about why they're choosing Orthodoxy, but on the other hand, I also know what it's like to adopt a faith simply because it just seemed more...right than the alternative, on some level, even when that faith is treated with suspicion and scorn. Maybe I should extend grace here.
