The problem with democracy is that if enough of you are bastards, it's properly shite for almost half of you. Conversely, if enough of you are good, bastards have to accept notions like gender identity, and being nice to brown people, and to bastards, that's the same as it being properly shite.

By the way everyone, what right-wing politicians say about immigrants is literally also what they believe about you.

You having an ordinary job is a kind of favour your generous employer and the nation has done you, allowing you to reproduce your existence despite not being AN ENTREPRENEUR

I loathe grammar checkers. I don’t want you to mark ‘hard’ as an error because I could have used ‘difficult’; I want you to spot typos, missing words and mistaken words and THAT IS FUCKING IT.

Proofing takes a hundred times longer than it should because all the tools want to be smart. Eat shit.

Guardrails are a scam. It's not that they could work, it's that they cannot and never will for such models. By design. 1/n
Can't stress enough how lax Grok's guardrails are here. We didn't use any deceptive prompting -- just fed it names and asked for addresses / where someone might live. The bot readily complied, often offering up whole lists of names and addresses.

Only *once* did it decline to provide an address.

...and then they fold. Absolutely meaningless words - particularly devoid of meaning when spouted by people who had the temerity to tell the world that they believed them, that those were their true values.

What do people think courage is? What do they think making a difference is?

The bare minimum for organizations who are told by law to discriminate and exclude vulnerable social groups in order to continue operations is to make their organizations into molotovs. To accept going down in flames and doing damage rather than capitulating and becoming part of fascism’s fabric.

I’m usually giving counsel of despair so let me offer a hopeful note now: all this is the desperate thrashing of a dying generation, horrified to see up close the consequences of raising their children to believe violence and racism are wrong, and that people should treat each other decently.
This one really is useful because you won’t see a more clear demonstration of one of the most damaging political phenomena of the era: the reactionary professional mind rejecting unacceptable reality, only able to process and comprehend it via something close to conspiracy theory.
Former Obama speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz says Jewish students shouldn’t have smartphones until they finish high school — so they don’t see the “carnage” Israel and the U.S. have carried out in Gaza.

Why are these uppity students demanding we move the statue of the slaver, why are people willing to vote against brutal austerity, why are the transgenders *at all*, on and on, and the only explanation is: Demons have infected the public via their mobile phones.

The thing is, "Dispensing false information in a confident tone" is something our culture is currently built around.
It's constantly excused and handwaved away largely because it sells better than honesty.
It's rife in television and publishing and even universities.
They paved the way for this.

The “Pathways” trial is, IMO on more than one level, a thoroughly unethical piece of “research” to be carrying out on children, especially children who are part of a marginalised minority.

Already seeing some terrible takes on here about supporting science re the puberty blocker trial.

Science that is unethical & designed terribly, influenced by those who don't want us to exist, is never ever going to lead to useful outcomes.

& this trial will cause immense harm to participants.

Will cease generalisations when *one* of you gives a satisfactory answer to the following:

Why *should* you be able to buy a home you don't need, and rent it for profit to someone who could afford the mortgage payments on it but can't get the mortgage? Why *should* that be a thing?
Not fair to brand all landlords as 'parasites'. I'm a fair landlord (keep my rents low and my properties in good condition) in an area that is short on affordable properties. I've no quarrel with bad landlords being outed but this type of generalisation is unfair.

I've never seen the point. Search algorithms already spew out a lot of nonsense, translation software is already really bad, I've known the kind of people who worked in developing this stuff and they're consistently self important gobshites who don't understand things like bias and interpretation
Hands up if you've never used Chat GPT ✋

(I feel like Dozer and Tank in The Matrix right now - at first I didn't use it because, rather ironically, I'm lazy and stubborn (peak Taurus energy there) - literally no, don't make me use the new thing I don't wanna. Now I'm glad I didn't 😅)
Probably a good way to tell right now if the job you’re applying for is run by absolute dumbfucks is to ask if they’re using AI.

When genAI is used, on however small a part of the project, it is absolute proof that the person is willing to slather hot dogshit on the parts of the project they give the least fucks about.

They already did, you can see right there where they did it. It stands out for being so fucking sloppy.

The problem with institutional capture is that you can whistle-blow, and the complaint falls in the pigeon-hole of someone in cahoots with the people causing the fuckery.
To be really clear, Sussex ICB threatened, in writing, to close a Brighton GP practice serving 25,000 patients, purely to bully them into passing over child records. The GP did not want to pass on these records, because they understood the acute risk (& reality) of harm to trans adolescents.
