Trump’s driving the economy into a ditch, predictably.
NEW from me:

The US is losing blue-collar jobs for the first time since early COVID or the Great Recession—the country has lost 65k jobs over the last year as manufacturing, transport, & mining employment decline, while growth in construction has nearly zeroed out

This is a direct response to the European statements. It’s an attempt at a palliative.

It’s still the worst act the United States has pondered since the Mexican War and it think there’s an least a 50% chance it happens.

NATO is basically over unless Senate Rs like Senator Kennedy build a barrier.

American politics is mostly sephiroth posting about a world ending program and settling for 1 (one) money bill
I don't know how to describe it, but there's this profound brokenness in the American body politic where nobody can take the implications of anything seriously. People keep saying things that should be existential threats to the political system, and then everyone just keeps going on as normal.

i feel like "jewish consigliere to nazis" is basically a description of greenwald's entire career
Glenn Greenwald says Nick Fuentes' authenticity makes it easy for critics to "demonize and attack you by taking these quotes that can sound not just very racist, but very almost Nazi-like and kind of an extermination rhetoric." Um, yea. People who use Nazi-like rhetoric tend to get labeled a Nazi.

Impeachment is deserved and it would be fine to do, but with it having been rendered a dead letter by Republicans joining arms to defend this criminal, it is kind of the definition of a strongly worded letter.
Democrats need to grow a f*cking spine.

No more strongly worded letters. It’s time to draft articles of impeachment.

Impeach. Convict. Remove.

even my favored structural reforms are just finding ways to brute force a less destructive republican party, whether that is ending as much as possible the electoral bonus for representing rural areas or making multi-partyism more viable.

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

i basically think its important for the military to only follow orders they’re reasonably confident wont land them in prison and it is incumbant on the executive branch to do convince them of that. theyre not even really bothering with the “inherent art ii powers” arg

the civilians (congress) are the ones who write the laws and decide what is illegal, actually. the military refusing illegal orders is civilian control of the military
You want civilian control of the military in a democracy. Well, this is it. Elect better civilians.

You want the military to be part of the checks and balances? That’s a praetorian guard.
Real black pilled on the military. The oath means absolutely nothing at all, apparently. Happy to be praetorians, just as long as the check clears.
