thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

This post is funny, but it just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the history of feminine labor and craft.

Spinsters dismantled the Spinning Jenny by hand. Suffragettes used acid and bombs to attack politicians. Militant textile workers went on strike by the tens of thousands.
The Venn Diagram of protestors today who would count as hardcore antifa that are ready to take up arms for the revolution and people whose primary hobby is quilting would be interesting to see.

DOL employees got the same email in yet another Hatch Act violation. We encourage every federal employee who was told to blame Democrats in their OOO message to submit a complaint to the Office of Special Counsel. Here's how ⬇️

SCOOP: At 9:35am on Wednesday, the first morning of the US government shutdown, employees at the Small Business Administration (SBA) received a template from human resources for their suggested “out of office” email. They were advised to blame the Democrats.

Workers at one agency were given unhinged, partisan language to use when setting out-of-office replies.

In 1997 I found this dress at a Goodwill in Cottonwood, Arizona. It cost six dollars. I wore it and a peacock-feather mask for Halloween, then I cut off the sleeves and the top of the bodice, and proceeded to wear it at least twice a month until graduating high school in 2001.

A bit lost in Bath in 2002, my then-boyfriend tapped Anthony Stewart Head on the shoulder, and when he turned asked him if he could point us to a McDonald's. He said no and smiled knowingly at me (*I* recognized him; boyfriend didn't).
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Re: the shrinkflation convo, it's REALLY striking if you haven't been a box food cook for a while. I stopped making rice dishes from boxes cuz I have a rice cooker and boullion. I can roni my own rice. But I just got some cuz I missed it, and these things are tiny now?!

A lot of people currently calling for civility saw Kirk's violence as harmless because they weren't the primary target. The fact that being lower on the list is seen as safety is wild to me.

Lucked into 44lbs of whole chickens, 75% off at Chef Store today. Twenty bucks for fourteen chickens makes it *very* worth it to do the work of breaking them down--but it's so much work!
Thirteen chickens portioned out; one held aside for the oven, and roasted with garlic and thyme and white pepper.

I'm supremely mad and I'm going to rant about it.

I have a podcast. It's hosted by ACast. They do dynamic insertion ads prior to the show, which I've enabled. These are basically the commercials you might hear before the show starts.

My name was mispronounced at my high school graduation, too--and I did not then bear this surname. Nearly everyone I've ever met diminutizes my name. A boyfriend's mother told me I had the ugliest name she'd ever heard.

Only one person I have ever met asked what I *wanted* to be called.
Something very very weird happened during the Hugos award ceremony... It's been on my mind for days, and so I wrote this blog: "When People Giggle at Your Name, or the 2025 Hugo Awards Incident"

The queries have started about “What if I only used a little bit of AI for my story submission.”
The answer is, fuck AI. Uncanny Magazine doesn't want your story. There is no grey area here. Send us a story using AI for any aspect, it will be auto-rejected and you will be banned. Period.

I’m told I need to find a way to live together, in harmony, with these loathsome bigots, and I don’t really feel any desire to try. I would rather work to undermine them, to humiliate them, to deny them peace or joy.
