This story by @awprihandita.bsky.social in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social is something else. Dark and harrowing and the central concept is… wow. I appreciated that there's an interview with the author, as well.

One thing about being Caitlin's case manager, it prepared me for a lifetime of sending follow-up emails to see why that thing I was told would happen didn't happen yet.

Things I have consumed recently!
The film Flowers of Shanghai (directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien) This continued my quest to see every film on the Sight & Sound Greatest Films of All Time Top 250 list. (Only 17 to go!) Beautiful and slow. Tony Leung might be the best actor in film history.

I guess you’re not supposed to laugh in a cemetery but I sure smiled when I saw this tombstone at Pierce Brothers, one of the most iconic cemeteries in LA. Thanks for all the great films, Jack Lemmon.

I sure do love when what's left of our major news outlets decides to publish garbage articles that are mostly designed to keep the AI bubble from bursting and tanking the stock market.
fuck this lady, fuck the nyt reporter, fuck all of this. fuck amazon for introducing the KU page read model that makes this possible, fuck our tech overlords.

Apparently, Belle & Sebastian’s The Life Pursuit is 20 years old this week! This was Caitlin’s introductory album when it came out. It began her belief that Glasgow was a magical place. Here is her fave, “Funny Little Frog.“ www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fT6...

I am having a lot of thoughts today about legacy IP, the desires of the original creators, and later creators/corporations embracing fan-driven nostalgia over reinterpretations.

One of the things I loved about MMPBs in my youth was how shareable they were. Friends swapped books all the time without the super worry about getting them back. Also, they were SO CHEAP at used bookstores.
The mass market paperback, light in the hand and on the wallet, once filled airport bookstores and supermarket media aisles. You may never buy a new one again.

The amazing thing about Caitlin was she was under no illusion about her limited time on this planet, but she took joy wherever she could find it, and loved everyone around her. This was her favorite Kinks song, “Days.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1wn...
