Better lives are possible…
You ever have one of those weekends where everything kinda has you feeling like "This is what my life is supposed to be?" I was not meant to endlessly labor, working a 9 to 5 job to barely keep on scrapping by. I was meant to do see friends, write, cook, do my youtube thing, cuddle with cats & nap.

If history holds, from Chicago's police department censoring Macbeth for violence to Tumblr censoring renaissance art for b00bz, mockery won't change the mind of censors high on self-righteousness but it will damage their reputations and I'll take what I can get.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

WE DID IT! We raised over $16,000 today for sex worker mutual aid! Many many more thanks and thoughts to come - but for now I’m exhausted, I’m elated, and I’m so grateful for everybody who showed up for @corntelethon.bsky.social today whether virtually, in studio, or via donation. 😌🥰🫶😹

Maybe a few more people will hear this now because somebody else said it?

Lord knows sex workers have been saying this about AV laws since 2023 and a whole lot of folks haven’t wanted to listen.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

I think some people have trouble seeing fascism as anything other than 1940s Germany.

But I think 'people going to a comic convention needing to have a plan in case the government's goons show up to disappear people' is a pretty good demonstration of what it can look like in 2025.

I just paid my real estate taxes online. If you pay by echeck (which I did), no fee. However, if you pay any other way, credit, debit, Venmo, etc, they charge $40!! So, ppl who don’t have a checking acct, or enough $ in their acct (ie those who are struggling the most) get gouged. SUCH CRAP.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

It's also worth mentioning that Les Moonves, head of CBS at the time, sabotaged Janet Jackson's career for not delivering a groveling apology to him after a certain ramen-haired dweeb pulled open her top during the Super Bowl.

Report: Les Moonves Harbored a Years-Long Grudge Against Janet Jackson
Following her wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl—the halftime show we’ll apparently never be able to put behind us—the embattled CBS chief reportedly wanted to sabotage the singer’s career.

It's also one of several reasons Paramount+ is a streaming service I have never tried and never will. I will never give them a penny. I bought classic Star Trek box sets on disc used, ditto a few other series. I am committed to physical media but most especially in this case.

This case stuck with me because this was not he said, she said. He was caught on camera, every allegation she made was backed up via recordings, and she still was the one whose career was ruined.

Weatherly, as an interchangeable white guy in shows gramps likes, was the one deemed essential.

I hope she finds success, fulfillment and healing in her new career but "stepping away" doesn't really describe what was done. (CBS indicated that she invited harassment as an immodest harlot because she wore a swimsuit-- at the beach)
