I'm Quin, find me on Dreamwidth. She/her, late thirties. @firefrorefiddle on Twitter.
I am now a Fandom Hag. I found fandom at the age of 12 (also my 1st lesbian friend came out). Some of the 1st people I encountered were various options of genderqueer. Then I got into HP fandom, & 1 of the first things they started playing with was magic and gender, because magic meant they could!
cis folks, i'm curious for you to share answers, if you want:

what made you start caring about trans rights? who'd you know/what happened? tell me the story.

“One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” -Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

And it’s on every cis person in this country to fiercely have trans people’s backs in every macro and micro way, now and always. In the bathroom & in the streets. When they’re present or not. Everywhere.
Spoke to ABC about Nancy Mace’s bathroom bigotry on the Hill.

When we’re talking about discrimination, some rules need to be broken.

Trans folks aren't the threat; we’re under threat.

I’m saying it now with hopes that it sinks in: Donald Trump cannot take any oath of office until he is granted amnesty for breaking the last one he swore. That’s just straight up in the Constitution. 2/3 of each House. That’s the bar.

"Don't Engage, Just Block" is having a real effect and you can tell it's frustrating the bots, chuds and trolls. They're in my comments trying everything they can to get people there to react -- and no one's biting. And then I swing by and chuck 'em into the cornfield and that's that.
As long as we keep a culture of disengaging and blocking trolls we actually can probably keep the vibes up.

okay, we're starting with this

Step 1. call your own rep if you haven't already!

Step 2. sign this (cis women only please! cis guys, you can help by boosting)

Step 3. much depends on the success and reach of step 2; lots of options if this blows up

Yes this - the more the focus is solely on Sarah McBride, the more this gets cemented as an individual issue instead of the systemic bigotry it is. It’s not just about heroics. It’s about the shape of the world they want to force people to live in.
I’m not trans so maybe it’s not my place to say but:

If I was the only Black woman surrounded by dozens of people targeting me for harassment/segregation, I’m pretty sure I would say what Sarah McBride did and then I would hope dozens of my colleagues would stand up for me anyway.

in 1999, rep. nancy mace was the first woman graduate of the citadel military college. she understands acutely what it’s like to break a barrier. for her to do this to incoming rep. sarah mcbride, the first trans member of congress, is particularly vile.

Any jackass can do a fight scene.

What made Jackie Chan fight scenes so good is the director going "ok but what if your character is holding a baby?"

Or "ok but what if you are both terrified of breaking any of your grandma's fine dishes in this living room?"

It is so discouraging to see that the media hasn't learned a single thing over the past decade. They normalize the absolutely insane things Trump and his surrogates do and treat them as legitimate.

HIV drug could be made for just $40 a year for every patient
