I cannot stand the "this is a good start" discourse. The Democrats in Congress do not want to abolish ICE. They have proposed a series of bog-standard reforms regurgitated by a think tank. Everyone knows they do not work. The Democrats supporting this do not care. They just want to move on.

So, here's the thing I've thought about when it comes to voting. I don't identify AS a Democrat, right? I vote Democrats and I support the party because, in general, they best represent my interests. But I don't feel personally involved and invested in the party.

I think Zohran understands, unlike a lot of his very online supporters, that actually running a functional NYC administration is going to be a lot more effective victory for "the Left" than anything else he can do, and that doing that is in no way, shape, or form something you can take for granted.
it is, to me, insane that people mad at Zohran for endorsing Hochul without explicit promises in her *primary* are also just pretending that other *primaries* aren't happening and he's stuck with this state leg. No, he's not! this is to help ensure Hochul doesn't block anything

This is historically inaccurate on two counts:
(1) In pre-Enlightenment Europe, only the aristocracy routinely married off teenage girls. Commoners generally married in their 20s.
(2) Few adults dropped dead in their 30s/40s. The life expectancy distribution was bimodal (early childhood and 60+).

Don’t give me this talk about back in the day, girls got married and had babies at age 14 or 15. We aren’t back in the day, when people only lived to around 40 and had to have children as early as possible just to ensure their survival.

I will reiterate something I've been hammering on here lately: I think coming up with a list of extremely moderate demands that you know the Republicans will reject is a great shutdown tactic.
The only actual problem is that nobody knows what Dems long-term policy goals are with ICE.

I don’t think you’ll see Hells Angels or Rock Machine battalions, but I think the ways organized crime may influence, and be influenced by a crisis over Albertan separation are worth considering.
