Q: Will you assure House Democrats they'll get a vote on ACA subsidies by a date certain?

MIKE JOHNSON: Ah -- no. I'm not promising anyone anything.

Former vice president Dick Cheney has died, at 84, with the blood of millions on his hands. His legacy will far outlive him as the man responsible for wars that have killed and displaced millions abroad; and who worked diligently to lay the groundwork for fascist authoritarianism in the U.S.
War Criminal Dick Cheney Dead at 84, With Blood of Millions on His Hands
Cheney’s legacy more than outlives him; he reshaped the very structures of war and authoritarianism at home and abroad.

FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

this seems to corroborate my fear that even “AI-literate” people assume that LLMs are reasoning engines that isolate premises and carry out logical (truth-preserving) inferences on them. here as elsewhere, LLMs actually produce plausible-looking slop. i'll give an example. +

This is *stunningly* disingenuous, and the fact that Singal continues to enjoy a career writing at the highest levels about a topic that he either unwilling or incapable of discussing honestly is such an indictment of the Anglo-American prestige media.

a thought i have reading @clintsmithiii.bsky.social’s wonderful piece is that one reason the administration wants to erase any mention of the worst of our past is because it is intent on recapitulating those atrocities www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Actually, Slavery Was Very Bad
The president’s latest criticism of museums is a thinly veiled attempt to erase Black history.

It’s one of those hard situations where you know Bolton is a terrible dangerous old man who has done horrifying things but at the same time Trumps use of government forces to raid his home is a massive escalation and one that is going to be coming for all of his critics.

also curious about what people end up using the machines for in practice, especially if they’re used by non-programmers

The Substack app apparently push alert promoted a Nazi newsletter to several users. Users have complained about it on Substack Notes but the company hasn’t responded. Generally push alert promos are for content a user is likely to interact with

reupping this piece, since the seat that Emil Bove just filled could have been filled by Adeel Mangi last year
Adeel Mangi would have been the first Muslim judge on a federal appeals court but for Republicans' relentless Islamophobic attacks and Democrats' failure to defend him from them

I wrote about a remarkable letter Mangi published Monday in which he defended himself

Adeel Mangi’s new letter about the anti-Muslim attacks on his judicial nomination holds a mirror up to the Senate. The reflection is ugly.
