Saying "it's good that this is happening" isn't the same as saying "the people who are doing this are good."

Scumbag politicians figuring out what the progressive base wants and giving it to them is an essential part of making the country better. Always has been, always will be.

i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

Brett Kavanaugh sees no problem with this woman being forced to do this every day for the rest of her life
“Traumatized, humiliated, degraded.”

The nurse, a US citizen, 4’11”, 85 lbs, says she was following orders when she was dragged out of her car by masked immigration agents in Florida.

It was the 3rd time she had been stopped and told to produce ID.

If you are born here, and you are subject to our laws, you're one of us. You're an American, and you have all the rights that Americans have, from the moment of your birth. Period. No exceptions.

That's what the Fourteenth Amendment says, and it's fucking beautiful.

When a driver slows from 30 mph to 8 mph to roll through a stop sign, they’ve reduced their speed by 75% so it <feels> to them like they’re complying, whereas

A bicyclist slowing from 10 mph to roll through at the same speed of 8 mph looks to drivers like “they barely slowed down”
I’m always confused when people complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs.

The vast majority of drivers do a “rolling stop” (i.e., they don’t actually stop) when possible.

This is so normal people don’t even see it as breaking the law, but when cyclists do the same thing, it stands out.

This.

I beg folks, especially everyone who's understandably given up on the Dems, to at least vote in the upcoming Democratic primary. Voting against do-nothing centrist Dems in the primary can actually make a difference, if there's a better person running. (This is how AOC won.)
it's very plausible that the fractures in the right will, short term, lead to a loss in the 2026 elections. i think i believe that will happen. however whether that leads to *any good results* is different and depends very much on what the democrats do after taking one or more chambers of congress.

Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

Suicide can have many contributing factors. His family is speaking out about bullying and misgendering as two.

Is there any point, when you’re threatening to break a judge’s car windows so you can detain the teenage Supreme Court intern he’s driving home for protection, that you’re like huh, maybe I’m the bad guy?

Understanding this dynamic is key to understanding what the endgame is for a whole suite of GOP policies, including the rash of anti-trans attacks.

It's about creating a permission structure for random people to do awful things to disfavoured groups, and less about using state capacity to do so.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

The Republican Party is in the full time business of endorsing and incentivizing political violence. So scary.
