New in PN: Cue the rebellion
"The unfortunate conclusion to the shutdown is going to fuel a rebellion within the Democratic Party, one that has already begun but will only get stronger. And despite all the justified disgust now being expressed at Dems, in the long run it will be good for the party"

Cue the rebellion
The Democratic base is enraged at their party's capitulation — and that's a good thing.

5000 people have signed up to run for office with @runforsomething.net in the last week. Between the election wins & the shutdown fury, we’re taking that momentum in to 2026.

This seems like the most straightforward and also basically accurate message.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

My book was one the books these kids saved. They are absolute heroes. But I'm so enraged that ignorant adults put them in this position.
Last month, eight books were removed from Georgia's statewide reading book for students. It was teenagers who brought this censorship to the spotlight–even though it's not their job to clean up grown-up messes.
Get to know 3 of those teens here.

Primary author of that Democratic anti-trans "strategy" is Simon Bazelon, nepobaby son of anti-trans NYT reporter Emily Bazelon. The report quotes McBride, a nepobaby token whose purpose is to excuse transphobia and do private equity's bidding.

that new democrat strategy document cites sarah mcbride's transphobia as justification for everybody else's transphobia in the introduction :)

The extremely, ugly public turn against trans rights, especially among prominent liberals and centrists, doesn't fully make sense until one realizes that it's elites attacking overwhelmingly working class demographics to punish us for our defiance and try to crush any hopes for autonomy.

The class war also explains the ridiculously conciliatory to outright traitorous behavior of the smattering of trans gentry in the face of these attacks. Their main goal is to reassure the other elites they're not like the rest of us (especially those angry, radical poor transes) to save themselves.

The difference, though, is that the economy now under Trump is getting worse, inflation is increasing, job growth is happening, etc. The puzzle about Biden was that the economy was actually good & everyone thought it was terrible:

One thing I haven't heard Bessent asked is this: If you think higher tariffs will benefit the US economy, do you also think other low tariff economies would benefit from raising tariffs? In your view, would it be in the interest of foreign governments to raise their own tariffs?
GEIST: Do you think tariffs help or hurt prices for consumers in this country?
BESSENT: I think tariffs help consumers
GEIST: Do you believe tariffs are a tax on consumers?

I'm going to actively say at this point that I don't think people should donate to any Dem-run PACs. What guarantee do we have that they won't give the money to cowards to stave off primary challengers?
I mean, it rather feels like the reverse will happen.

It's not like I'm rolling in money that I can't give to people who really need it. There are good candidates, and there are good causes, but I'm not going to risk one dime going to people who are fine with millions of people losing health care.

Maxwell, a convicted sex offender connected to Jeffrey Epstein, was moved to a less restrictive federal prison this summer. Congress is investigating allegations of special treatment.
