Every prompt to chatbot software is “generate me some text.” If it generated you some text, it performed its function correctly. It never lies, it never wants anything, it’s text generating software that generates text.
Not wanting to disappoint you so much that it lies is the last quality I want in a computer.

every social media company is bad but Meta really is uniquely evil
Instagram’s former head of safety and well-being Vaishnavi Jayakumar testified the company had a “17x” strike policy for accounts that engaged in the trafficking of humans for sex.

“You could incur 16 violations and upon the 17th violation, your account would be suspended"

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

I made a video last year where I pointed out that Mastodon is better than Bluesky in terms of ability to take your audience with you to new places. Lots of people said I was wrong. I figured maybe I was. Now I'm figuring that maybe I wasn't. skepchick.org/2024/12/is-e...

Kickstarter United workers will strike beginning October 2
Demands include enshrining the four-day, 32-hour work week in their contract.

This is legitimately insane. It's not an exaggeration to say this is actually a full on bathroom ban for trans people because they're banned from using spaces of their sex assigned at birth too!

You wanna know a really low effort way to support your favorite artist? Next time you wanna share something they made, direct the person you're sharing with to the original website. This used to be a norm, but no longer is. It's almost no effort, and it makes our lives much better.
