Born in 1873 Maori scholar Mākereti Papakura is believed to be the first indigenous woman to matriculate at University of Oxford. She enrolled in 1922 to read Anthropology at Pitt Rivers Museum but tragically died just before graduating. She will be awarded a posthumous degree in Oxford next week.

Had an elderly family member at Auckland hospital ED over the weekend. Only 6 doctors on when they should have 12. We were urged to write to Simeon Brown. We were at the top of the list and still took 7 hours to be seen. Amazing team there and left much better than arrived. How do the workers cope?

Monkeys falling from trees and baking barnacles: how heat is driving animals to extinction
With the number of very hot days rising as well as average temperatures, more and more animals are vulnerable. But while some species can adapt, others are seeing huge population declines

New research provides conclusive proof that 20mph in London is saving lives.

14 yrs of analysis at 150+ sites - reviewed by experts - shows:

❤️40% fewer deaths (vs 7% drop on roads where no changes were made)
❤️75% fewer children killed & 50% fewer kids hurt

And slower speeds deliver so much more:

On Friday, my son stayed home from school because he had a sore throat and wasn’t feeling well. He went with my husband to his office for the morning while I handled our daughter. When he came back at lunch, he was not interested in eating, saying his throat hurt too much. 1/n

He is literally fucking stupid. He absolutely doesn't understand what he's talking about.

He clearly has never understood tariffs and he also doesn't understand what a trade deficit is — to the extent that he didn't even correctly refer to it here.
This is nonsense

#NZpol Interesting responses and discussion to making sure NZ data isn’t at risk from US (or other foreign) interference, "grabs", etc. ⬇️
NZ data nerds (@keithng.bsky.social, @curly.kiwi, @maetl.bsky.social etc) I presume we've also done this? I know plenty of govt stuff in offshore severs but are they US based?
It is very hard to accept, but it is no longer safe to move EU governments & societies to US clouds. Not only is it dangerous to do so, it is also likely flat out illegal in the near feature. We're trading convenience for utter dependence on a mad king. It should stop.

“As far as I can tell, the current foreign policy priorities of the US government seem to involve terrorising the people of Gaza, annexing Canada, invading Greenland, and bullying Panama. We felt confident that a review of our materials would not find them to be aligned with those priorities.”

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services.

Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt.

While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant per person of £10tn.

That's how privatisation 'works'.

Every day for the past week or so I have gone into my settings on Instagram and turned off the setting that allows Meta to track my off-Meta activity.

Every day it resets to “on”.

Might need to talk to the Privacy Office about this.
