Also has tax filing implications.
USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

IMHO Immigration NZ is incompetent in refusing a visa to an autistic kid with possible learning delays on fake Health Cost grounds.

Nurse's autistic son could face deportation after Immigration NZ rejects visa

Kid needs supportive education not medical care.

Call me Cassandra. For yrs, I warned the NZ Govt about rising RWE risks, unchecked tech platforms, resulting harmful narratives unmoderated. After March 15 attack, a widow asked me something I’ve never forgotten: “Why were you able to see what government couldn’t?” This article helps explains it.
The Americans Who Saw All This Coming—but Were Ignored and Maligned
Call them the Cassandras: the people—mostly not white and male—who smelled the fascism all over Trump from jump street. Why were they “alarmists,” and how did “anti-alarmism” become cool?

And yet New Zealand did not send anyone to last week’s UN convention on anti-corruption. There were 170 nations present, but not NZ.

Such an awesome mahi these last two years. I'd look for it every week. 👇
So, today I'm wrapping up People Watching. Massive thanks to everyone who has supported it & all the cool people I've met and drawn. I wrote an article in the Sunday Magazine today talking about the lessons I've learned doing it - and there were so many.

Let’s shift New Zealand down a better path.

Further thoughts on the UN’s review of NZ’s efforts to eliminate racial discrimination found those efforts were not just lacking, but that key indicators show NZ is regressing.

Last week, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination(CERD) released a report raising serious concerns about NZ’s efforts to address discrimination.

Surrounded by CVE for years, I know this with certainty. No one should ever experience terrorism. Guns have no place in civil society besides tightly regulated hunting. No one should be targeted because of their faith. And the only long term solution to overcome hate is to love thy neighbour. 🧵1/2

Asked about my thoughts on social media bans for under 16s->Simply I feel mixed. Some lives saved & some youth will manage better, BUT it's crazy that govts happy to regulate end users, misplacing responsibility, and ignoring the actual producers of the most harm: Big Tech. 🧵1/4
Australia’s social media ban launched with barely a hitch – but the real test is still to come
The policy to cut off social media access for more than 2 million under-16s remains popular with Australians, while other countries look to follow suit

Our central, local, and regional govts use MS products for many, many things. So do our universities and Public Research Organisations (former CRIs) along with a whole heck of a lot of private companies all around the motu (e.g. law firms and banks). No guarantee of data sovereignty. None.

Good to see UN at minute 21 with firm questions on NZ’s human rights record and failure to implement key RCOI recommendations from the Christchurch attacks. Goldsmith’s response, starting after minute 38, was difficult to watch, stretched reasoning, and failed to address the core concerns. #painful

Democracy began with expectations, not elections.

From its inception, even in Athenian times, leaders were meant to serve the people, protect the law, act with integrity, stay accountable, and safeguard the wellbeing of the whole community.

That’s the base that everything “democratic” sits on.🧵1/4
