The strength in pause and repair.

Holding what already exists can be better than starting from scratch.

Lately I've been upcycling old art, trays and silver. I'm reminded the fix, repaint restore the projects isn't just for the items, but it's for people too.

What will you rebuild this week?

A little chuffed, a lot grateful!!! It’s not every day you get to look back and see how a small idea has grown into a network of leaders across the country.

Over the past 3 years, IWCNZ’s WIL programme has developed 70 Muslim women across Aotearoa in leadership. 1/3

Once again, everyday New Zealanders outdo themselves raising funds for Gaza with open hearts and generosity.

Today, in my good news basket: I popped home for a minute and found happy mail from Jami Ray Vintage waiting on my doorstep. Imagine a business sending a free gift sent all the way from the USA.
A little bundle of vintage joy--proof that good things can find their way to you.

When life gives you lemons, you can drink something sour or make something sweet. Your choice.

A rarely-highlighted fact (but an extremely important one):
The Genocide Convention doesn’t just hold states accountable. It also places direct responsibility on individuals—yes, even private citizens. This is a law for all->not just generals or presidents. 🧵1/5

Took a long drive today with an oldies list playing in the background. Ricky Lee’s "9999999 Tears," then Rod Stewart’s "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" came over the speakers.
The road, the music, the memories... it got me reflecting more about how heavy things feel for a lot of folks right now. 🧵1/4

Art sleuths, could you weigh in? I thrifted a large watercolour this week and would love to know more. I’d like to find out if it could be the work of a known New Zealand artist. Where would you go to get it checked? 🧵1/4

Imagine a world built not on fear, borders, or “who belongs,” but on the right of every person to live with dignity. If we want justice, we start with dignity. Authentic freedom and happiness with then follow with ease. 5/5

When we forget dignity, we create injustice.
I believe when we treat people as numbers, threats, or burdens, we dehumanise them. And that leads to injustice. The most vulnerable are often blamed for problems they didn’t cause. Dignity isn’t optional, frankly, it is owed. #DignityFirst 4/5

Dignity Isn’t a Luxury! We often act like dignity is something extra…a nicety, if you can get it. But to me it’s essential. The Qur’an calls all human beings “honoured” (Qur’an17:70). No exceptions! #IslamicJustice 3/5

Don’t You have to earn your worth
Your worth isn’t tied to your passport, job, or bank account. You don’t have to “deserve” rights. In Islam, simply being human is enough. (Qur’an 95:4) Your life matters. Your dignity matters. #HumanRightsInIslam #NoOneLeftBehind 2/5

🧵1/5Today, human rights discussions are often framed by freedom and happiness. In early democratic thought (and in Islam as well) human rights begin at an even more primal level: life and dignity. If a person is unsafe or cannot live with dignity, what good is freedom?

🧵Do you plant seeds for their fruit today, or for the shade they'll offer to others after you're gone?

A thing we can do, individually and collectively, is invest in people . Returns often unfold over years, sometimes decades 1/4

🧵Too many leaders still walk into the room alone.
Community forums. Government meetings. Strategic spaces.
Who are they leading if no one is learning beside them? 1/6

🧵Tomorrow, many Muslims will likely be fasting as they work. It is the Day of Ashura, which honours the courage and trust Moses showed at the Red Sea.
Moses declared: "My Lord is with me. He will guide me." (Qur’an 26:62) 1/3

Was this week’s speaker at Dark Times Academy‪ @darktimesacademy.bsky.social‬ for their 6th session: Fighting the Broligarchy. Talked power dynamics, representation, how CVE has intersected the realm, sharing grassroots perspectives on how orgs like IWCNZ are navigating systems built to exclude. 1/3

Running a mini workshop on allyship at today’s Women in Leadership Summit (UN Women Aotearoa NZ).

Focused on allyship that’s more than words , but rather embedded, strategic, and real.

What does allyship in leadership mean to you?

Leadership isn’t just speaking. It’s staying when it’s easier to walk away.

I carry your aroha forward.
Thank you for trusting me.
