And rhetoric matters.
Obviously not more than our material conditions; but online rhetoric has been shaped deliberately to frame the most vulnerable among us as acceptable ‘losses’ and to foster hate that technofascists can manipulate.
Anyone who finds this odd needs to remember that literally everything fascists say are disposable, arbitrarily made-up pretexts in the service of making the "unworthy" suffer and die. Rhetoric, which attempts to paint their victims and opponents as oppressors, is just one example of that.
A someone who has written extensively about the eugenic roots that permeates those who claim to be building so-called artificial general intelligence, I'm here to tell you to please NOT compare criticism against corporations claiming to build a machine god, with eugenics. The audacity.

and then compare criticisms of such eugenic practices to, wait for it, eugenics.

They want a captive market in schools/universities and for those institutions to eventually automate education with their chatbots.
We are TRAINING these LLMs in preparation for our redundancy, and experimenting with the health and futures of children while we do it
"Why would OpenAI and Microsoft spend $23 million to give 'free training' on how to use AI to teachers? Because they love teachers? No. Because they want to get their products into public schools in an attempt to cultivate the education market."
I maintain that we are in grave danger due not only to the trends noted by @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social in this piece, but by the failure of the Democratic party 1) to grasp these dangers and act in advance to prevent or minimize them; (1)

And it’s all to pay for more tax cuts that primarily benefit the super-rich.
