Re: the big No Kings protests this weekend, remember that the corporate media, politicians, etc are obviously champing at the bit to be able to force a “good protestors vs bad protestors” narrative to discredit the anti-ICE/anti-genocide movement.

Do not let them. Embrace a diversity of tactics.

people really need to grasp that Trump is only a symptom and one of the realities is that the reason Democrats have never been willing to deal with the fascism that Trump represents is because actually dealing with that fascism and eradicating it would mean destroying the roots of this country.

Solidarity with everyone else who is deep in PTSD response watching LA and feeling deeply triggered reliving painful 2020 protest experience.

It is no joke, our bodies and our brains can feel those memories in deep ways at times like these.

the hong kong protestors used the phrase "do not split" to mean that the radical protest and peaceful protest arms of the movement should refuse to criticize each other.

the decision to "be safe" is no longer yours to make. the state has decided to make us unsafe. but you can make informed choices, take calculated risks, and you can decide to be powerful.

COP RIOT
(ABC7) cops are violently hitting and shooting tear gas and less lethals into protestors at point blank.. It's likely people are being severely injured

Make no mistake, when a cop shoots their riot munitions directly at someone's head, they meant to do it and they mean to kill them.
I'll never forget that Linda Tirado lost an eye and is dying from TBI-induced dementia caused by a cop shooting her in the face by a rubber bullet at the George Floyd protests.
protect your eyes, protect your head. "less lethal" munitions are lethal when fired directly at a human being and cops love to use them this way. pepperballs will take your eye out, a tear gas canister can fracture your skull.
cops will kill you on purpose and by accident, all with impunity.

When granddads deliver sandwiches to kids throwing bricks, the state shakes. When they're all out their together, refusing to let us be divided, the state buckles.

Dividing protestors into "good" and "bad" is what the state wants us to do. Rowdy and peaceful protestors learning how to coexist and develop strategies that dovetail with one another is what threatens power.

Putting up a fierce fight at the opening of the poem is the way to stop the rest of the poem from coming true.

The fight for migrants and to stop ICE is the same fight as the fight to protect LGBT people (citizens or not), reproductive autonomy, and everyone else the fascists want to fuck with.

"specifically telling press to leave the area" is a phrase that makes my stomach hurt. in an age where every protester has their own camera, it's futile, but they don't want us to see what happens next.

If you want to prepare for a spicy summer

3M mask with extra filters. Ideally a full face respirator.

Soft body armor of some kind for impact munitions. Doesn't have to be ballistic.

Helmet. Can be ballistic. Can be bump. Even a bicycle helmet can save your life from a grenade.

A lot of folks need to pause and speak gently to themselves. Admit to yourself, "I'm afraid right now." Sit with that for a moment, understand what reflexes it's triggering, and that those impulses don't necessarily apply meaningfully to anything that's happening.

One role you could play at demonstrations is to show up prepared to protect your fellow human beings from toxic gas, in case the mercenaries deploy it.

Never seal a bottle containing an active tear gas canister—you don't want it to explode.
