Add New Hampshire to the (increasingly long) list of states taking major action on housing this year! The governor just signed:
- Single-stair up to 4 stories
- Cap parking mandates @ 1/home
- ADU expansion
- Residential in commercial zones
- Legalizing roommates

With Governor Lamont of Connecticut vetoing major housing legislation (HB50002), it is without question that republicans are far better on housing issues at this point, and that makes me very sad.

CT Gov. Lamont to veto controversial housing, striking workers bills

Give Lamont hell so that other blue state governors are afraid to veto pro-housing bills, IMO

It took heroic efforts to get HB 5002 through the CT legislature. CT has some of the most expensive suburbs & most restrictive zoning in the US - 2+ acre minimum lot sizes near excellent transit infrastructure & job access. Deeply frustrating to see Gov. Lamont's veto.
Gov. Lamont says he will *veto* HB 5002, the broad housing bill proponents say would boost affordable housing in the state.

He says he hopes to see an amended version in a special session this fall.

“Veto to me means we can do a lot better.”

Absolute pathetic governor we have in Connecticut. His veto rested on "Towns are trying really hard, I need to give them more time"

I'm sorry, the data just doesn't support anything the Governor is saying. We cannot permit our way out of a 400k home shortage without changing anything

Un-fucking-believable cowardice from Gov. Ned Lamont in CT. He just vetoed an incredible housing bill out of fear of a transparently fraudulent, astroturfed opposition campaign.

Go ahead & tell him what you think. 860-566-4840

He was asked a lot of times, and a lot of different ways, what exactly he'd like to see housing policy in CT look like and didn't provide a particularly clear answer.

Instead, he emphasized his desire for towns to be involved and expressed optimism there's a version of the bill they would support.

Good thread on today's press conference during which CT's governor announced he'd veto a housing bill he previously supported, the most significant piece of housing legislation to cross his desk during his time in office.

Lamont's logic on his HB5002 veto:

- We need housing
- This bill is good
- Some mayors and first selectmen are mad about the bill because of misinformation anti-housing people have been pushing
- The things they're mad about are fine, actually
- Therefore, I will be vetoing the bill

Blue states not growing means they hand their political power to red states, it really is that simple.

To say nothing of the shockwaves that vetoing HB 5002 will send through state politics in CT, it also means Lamont is hostile to one of the best ways for Democrats to build long term power federally: adding population to Blue states. CT’s housing crisis is already costing it a full seat in Congress.

The veto of HB5002 a 🧵1/ a lot

If only we gathered a group of municipal leaders and both sides of the aisle, and advocates and listened to experts . . . Spent six months on the Majority Leader’s Round Table learning how best to move forward in the 2nd most constrained housing market in the country.

Today, Gov. Ned Lamont vetoed HB 5002, a bill that represented an important step forward for housing in CT.

The cost of inaction is great. We call on Gov. Lamont to to finish the job on this bill.

Don’t worry, the ban doesn’t impact rest stops on 95, enjoy the gridlock 😘
I can't believe drive-through country of Connecticut will reform parking statewide before we will.
Connecticut just adopted a MASSIVE pro-housing law that:
- Ends costly parking mandates (1st state east of the Rockies to do so)
- Incentives transit oriented development & fair share
- Allows middle housing in commercial zones
- Allows manufactured homes everywhere

Speaking at Yale Innovation Summit today, Gov. Lamont touted CT’s strong job market & vibrant companies. You know what helps keep entrepreneurs & workers in your state? Making it easier to build homes they can afford in every community.
H.B. 5002 just passed the House after over 11 hours of debate! From Work Live Ride, the biggest parking reform east of the Rockies, to fair share, commercial conversions, public housing, and homelessness reforms, this is a significant step forward. On to the Senate! 🏘️🚉

Connecticut is one of the nation's richest states, yet has seen homelessness surge in recent years.

That includes Fairfield County, where one packed shelter sits only a couple miles from the state's wealthiest zip codes.

Homelessness surges in wealthy CT: 'I'm surrounded by millionaires, and next door this is happening'
Homelessness is an issue throughout Connecticut but is particularly striking in Fairfield County, where great wealth and great struggle exist only miles apart.
