It sounds counterintuitive, but allowing buildings with just one staircase access can actually produce safer buildings.

Not to mention the tremendous effect on liveability that can come with smaller footprint buildings.

Apropos of nothing in particular, new development in Mass. increases a city's Prop 2.5 basis. That is to say, if a city is having property tax issues, incentivizing new housing & commercial dev is one way to increase revenue potentially w/out raising individual residential taxes or prop 2.5 override

Feeling grateful that my fellow Boston voters did not send Frank Baker back to the city council, with his bizarre logic that by-right zoning is somehow government interference (what? 🤦‍♂️) while he also basically campaigned on defacto Councilor prerogative over development.

Good move, but even affordable housing in Boston gets caught up in long permitting processes & and require extensive variances that drive up the cost and open the developments to bad faith abutter lawsuits. 1/
