Safe streets & Transit. People need somewhere to sleep and the sidewalk isn’t it. Believer that better more livable cities are possible. Let's stop letting perfection get in the way of progress.

Anon here but happy to chat/meet up IRL

I recently picked up this fabulous coffee carafe (tea, tea only) from a goodwill and I turned it over today and learned Thermos was based in Norwich Connecticut!

Turns out the story is pretty wild, the citizens of Norwich bought the land and funded the construction of the factory in 1912

Woohoo! The Plainville gap is getting shrunken further with construction just starting on "Phase 2" of 3

Having useful greenways where people live isn't easy but it is so very rewarding

Rather than take the L handed to it by a judge two weeks ago who voided its ban on wind power, the White House has employed the only move it knows: doubling down — in this case through the invention of “national security concerns.”

Wait, so you're saying there is overwhelming demand of the public in CT to sign up for Community Solar but the amount being built is heavily capped and there are large waiting lists?

That's crazy! I would love to sign up for this!

Community solar projects continue to grow in CT. The aim is to bring down rising energy costs
Connecticut’s Shared Clean Energy Facilities Program allows residents to reap the benefits of solar who are not eligible to install solar panels themselves.

Every single report to shareholders from a large REIT includes something about how it's great that market-rate multifamily housing isn't getting built in high-cost coastal cities because the shortage is what allows them to rent gouge.
New housing stops landlords from raising rents—take it from the CEO of AvalonBay, one of NYC's largest landlords:
"We're well-positioned… we face significantly less new supply. Land entitled for multifamily is hard to come by, the amount of time it takes to get those entitlements… sets us up well.”

I talk a lot about Eversource and power prices but a large % of the cost of power in CT comes down to photos like this

We made it so 81% of the state has 1 acre or larger lots by fiat and it costs A LOT to service such low density residential with power. All those homes are subsidized heavily

This project was denied ostensibly because new development risks impacting the region's aquifer (per article).

Yet the board on the same night approved a large commercial development and is on a site that is mostly impervious service today... makes you think!

Maybe it wasn't the water quality...
“A Stonington municipal board rejected a developer's plan to pack more than80 townhouses on land where a shuttered nightclub stands”

Maybe one day in the future local reporters won’t use pejorative language like “pack” to describe basic townhomes

When your State's flag shift university kills the university library to build a brewery, is that supposed to be a sign of something?

It has gotten pretty desolate over the years, more housing would go a long way
