NEW: Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about.

DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.

Extremely cool but BC saying you can take the L from "corner to corner of this city" is wildly inaccurate and ignores the transit deserts of the south side in particular
3 friends visited every "L" stop in 9 hours in an effort to set a Guinness World Record.

The trio wore Chicago flags as capes and fought snowfall Monday to reach their ambitious goal. blockclubchi.co/3Lvnm15

When I was in grade school I went to after school program at the Jewish Community Center and I vividly remember the teacher Laurie loading us up in the back of her ratty brown Datsun 210 wagon to head to the Rural Oaks Hilander and this came on and we were dying laughing and singing
I’ve had the time of my life, and I owe it all to you

Anyone who gets upset about this is part of the reason hockey is a fringe sport.
there are people who sometimes get weird about me saying things along the lines of "baseball isn't perfect but it's still miles better than hockey" and I just want to remind people: the NHL still does not have a DV policy. they're so far behind the bare minimum and the bar is like 50 miles past hell

Lol the National Guard was here the whole time just sitting around outside Joliet? Amazing.
National Guard troops are leaving the Chicago area while Homeland Security has shut down its immigration enforcement command center at a nearby naval station, according to reports.

Discourse from the dimmest bulbs on the planet. The entitlement of the anti-paywall reply whiners requires a level of either genuine or feigned ignorance about how the world works that they should be too embarrassed to even admit. Anyone who pulls this shit on my timeline is instantly gone forever.
It looks like “news shouldn’t have paywalls“ discourse is starting again.

-Banner ads don’t cover costs, and you block them
-Native ads are coercive
-Billionaires buying papers backfired
-Event driven funding doesn’t scale
-Newsletters are narrow and lack accountability infrastructure

So… A BP agent filmed in LA in June kidnapping someone from a Walmart got arrested by Long Beach cops after drunkenly flashing his service pistol in a women’s restroom. He demanded they call BP Commander Bovino. After making bail he died of a drug OD at his parents house. lbpost.com/news/isaiah-...
A viral arrest, a drunken brawl and an overdose: the last days of a notorious Border Patrol agent
We obtained hours of body-camera video that give the fullest — and perhaps last — glimpse of Agent Isaiah Hodgson’s mindset when he became a flashpoint in the fight over immigration raids.

@govpritzker.illinois.gov I want you to watch this video of me slammed to the ground- why are you allowing this to happen to people you know are on the right side of history. They tied my hands behind my back and when I asked them to be loosened because I was going numb they said, “STFU.”
at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

What a bizarre and misleading if not flat out incorrect stat/caption.

George Allen's "coaching stint" with Washington was six years...and two preseason games. Steve Nash's was two years....and seven games.
While the Pelicans' dismissal of Willie Green after just 12 games is somewhat uncommon, there have been much shorter coaching stints throughout sports history.

this passage keeps coming up in my mind that Americans responded much more to images of the white Freedom Riders being beaten than the black civil rights activists - but especially as what is happening with religious protesters right now against forced deportations being a powerful political tool.

@musicboxtheatre.bsky.social you see this? Pretty awesome Pope Quote.
"May your cinema always be a meeting place and a home for those seeking meaning and a language of peace. May it never lose its capacity to amaze and even continue to offer us a glimpse, however small, of the mystery of God.”
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.
