Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

My latest for the Christian Century - probably my most robust theological reflection on my experiences at #Broadview.
“One zealous officer even grabbed my chest and twisted hard. I was wearing my clerical collar, and another agent said something that has stuck with me ever since: ‘Jesus said to follow the law.’”

As he marched down the street on All Saints’ Day in an anti-ICE protest, Rev. Michael Woolf was one of several people right behind a large banner declaring, “Free Our Neighbors.” The sign was later violently taken by police officers who ripped it away while beating people with sticks.

Saturday’s pepper-balling of Baptist pastor Michael Woolf is not an isolated incident.

Several other clergy have been shot, teargassed, and violently arrested during peaceful protests, including Rev. David Black (PCUSA), Rev. Hannah Kardon (UMC), and Rev. Jorge Bautista (UCC).

Thanks to @sojo.net for publishing my latest piece on why we have to keep fighting for our neighbors!
"We have rarely witnessed such brutality erupt into public view like it has in Chicago. For me, this is a spiritual emergency, and it means putting our bodies on the line in order to stop deportations," writes @revdrmichaelwoolf.bsky.social
I’m One of the Clergy ICE Assaulted. They Treat Immigrants Worse
I learned the hard way that my clerical collar doesn’t offer much protection from ICE. But immigrants have no protection at all.

Thanks to @wordandway.bsky.social for covering this - we have to continue to fight what is happening at Broadview. It is torture pure and simple.

This past Saturday I gathered to peacefully protest at the Broadview ICE Processing center and was shot in the leg by a pepper ball by Illinois State Police. I am fine, but what happened there is not. We have to continue to fight fascism tooth and nail. #Broadview #Fascism

I want to share a pastoral letter I wrote about antisemitism to my congregation a couple of weeks ago. It is so important for people of faith to speak out against antisemitism, especially those of us engaged in pro-Palestinian activism. People of faith everywhere have to challenge hate in all forms.

I spent this weekend in Jena, LA leading an interfaith vigil in front of the La Salle Detention Facility. We were there to protest and pray for the release of Mahmoud Khalil and the ending of the concentration camp system of ICE facilities that dot our landscape in America like a foul disease.
