The weather here is grisly this morning, could barely see Liddington through the sleet/rain combo so instead here's a couple of photos from Monday morning of Liddington Castle dressed in all its late autumn early morning finery #HillfortsWednesday

Indentured servitude is immoral and a Labour minister offering to consider it should have to resign in shame
Watching the Mahmood announcement and debate. Tory backbencher (Karen Bradley) suggests putting refugees into debt and making them repay during the rest of their lives. Mahmood says she’ll think about it.

Why do they lie about something so easily verifiable?
The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

I was tagged and asked to take a look at this claim - cos, well just look at it!🙄

Does it seem plausible that THE Trocadero is going to be turned into a Mosque?

It was pretty easy to debunk but I decided to do a deep dive into the reality AND the appalling press coverage

To reiterate, this is about making life immeasurably more miserable and stressful for some of the most vulnerable people, in the almost certainly vain hope of winning over the votes of racists.

Anything more shabby and shameful is difficult to envisage.

"There are many many more of us than you!"

A handful of fascists turned up in Bristol again. They were outnumbered massively again.

We are the people, they are the tiny fascist minority that has our mainstream media and politicians' attention

About 50 antiasylum protesters led by far right UKIP leader Nick Tenconi were outnumbered by over 400 anti fascists in Bristol today. Lots of refugees waved at the crowd protecting the Mercure Hotel, with one girl making a silver heart and holding up against the window.

Looks useful, but they may not cover an important topic: if you need a #map for your book, where do you go? Many authors, faced with that question, have no idea where to start.

If that’s you, I can help! I draw maps for a living, and specialize in maps for academic books.

The resignations of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness must be an opportunity for the BBC to turn a new leaf, rebuild trust and resist those like Nigel Farage who want to destroy it

We must stand up for a strong, independent BBC, to stop Trump’s America becoming Farage's Britain.

And if we think it’s bad now, imagine what it could look like, say, two months from a U.K. general election?

Could imagine huge sums in US far right cash flooding in, much of what would only be declared after the election (our electoral rules really are a jape)
Be clear, the American far right are coming for British democracy.

the deaths Musk has caused have had no bearing on his personal standing. It is ghastly to contemplate that no one in the press interrupts his latest announcement about some new waifu robot to ask “what about the children you took food and medicine away from?”
I helped make a film, out this week, called “Rovina’s Choice,” about the deaths this man without conscience or accountability has caused — already 600,000, ⅔ of them children.

This is what is happening. It is cynical. It is strategic. It is organised. It is well funded.

And we need to pay attention.

The far right - and their cheerleaders, mimics, tribute acts, and handmaidens have identified two presentational frameworks that give them cut-through and traction. 1/7

It's genuinely worth a quick check of the advanced moderation settings as there's plenty I'm sure people would like to tweak but aren't aware that they can.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.
