Trump's audacious and probably illegal capture of a Venezuelan leader of doubtful legality suggests he believes he has the right to intervene, i.e. grab what he wants, anywhere in the western hemisphere. Europe, already worried by Trump's Greenland rhetoric, has been warned

Articles about Brigitte Bardot after her death on Sunday have referred to her far right sympathies, which supposedly emerged later in the film star's life. Here she is, though, in 1958 with Jean-Marie Le Pen and Pierre Lagaillarde, future founder of the extremist OAS terror group

Well worth your time
This is an excellent dismantling of a MAGA nut (with a PhD) by a British journalist who takes the novel approach of asking pertinent questions and requiring answers

Truly shocking that Rachel Reeves had the audacity to call herself the U14 girls chess champions when she won the U14 girls chess championship but some bloke thought she was talking about something else.

Tragedy (for us at least)! But please reassure us dear @annettedittert.bsky.social that you will continue to cast your informed, insightful and generally gobsmacked eye on all things britisch?
So, my dear German followers...some News "in eigener Sache"!

Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

Why do they lie about something so easily verifiable?
The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

Man from nation whose comparable-sized global city has three airports, none of which they have managed to build a direct rail link from the city centre to yet, comes to Heathrow and announces that the British can’t make anything work.
Noah Smith is paid in the high six-figures to write a blog read by Americans who believe themselves to be intelligent. Yet, he is both unable to read a sign and also for some reason chose to have a 90 minute layover for a flight that takes 90 minutes.

I can't imagine a job i'd like to do less. Managing an organisation held to a ludicrous standard by roaring idiots on a daily basis, while the main mediums it uses are all in decline and it's starved of resources.
