Spending a semester with us is a great option for undergraduate students who study volcanoes but have never seen one erupt. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Did you know that UH Hilo participates in the National Student Exchange Program? We welcome students from all over the upper 49 states to our campus every year. We also have a robust international exchange program.

If you are interested in learning about volcanoes with a front row seat, reach out!

Fairly apparent where the "Feathered" comes from in the name of the Feathered Thorn moth #teamMoth. The "Thorn" not so much, that's derived from the look of the larva, which is very twiggy and will set itself erect at 90 degrees to a twig on its foodplant to hide from predators in plain sight

🖤 ʻAlalā (Hawaiian Crow)
Corvus hawaiiensis

The ʻalalā is the comeback story we all love — a smart, social crow with a team dedicated to returning it to its Hawaiian forest home. Let’s cheer on these hopes for its continuing recovery in Hawaiʻi!

Now that’s a size-comparison map that I hadn’t seen before: Hawaii 🌺 overlayed on top of the contiguous US shows just how far spread out the Hawaiian islands are. Big geopolitical importance for a lovely corner of the world.
