A new index shows that millions of Americans rely on drinking water utilities facing high climate risk, with many utilities underreporting these risks in financial disclosures. doi.org/hbmhs6
Tapping into risk in America's drinking water
When you turn on the tap, you can typically expect clean, safe water to flow out. But behind that simple action lies a complex system of pipes, pumps, governance, and financials that, for millions of Americans, is at risk in the face of climate change.

Microsoft demands you set your computer up this way and makes it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT not to. Here's the fix: Go to device encryption in settings. Turn off encryption. Go to your account screen in settings, and switch to a local account. Then turn encryption back on. KEEP A PAPER RECORD OF THE KEY.

I feel like a lot of things we're talking about regarding students apply to researchers too. I do think LLMs can be massively helpful in spotlighting the sort of errors experts might miss. But I also know once you start with the LLM it can be very hard to stop.

If you follow me, you know I'm a HUGE advocate of peer review. It's the very core of science.

But, hold everything.

If more than 50% scholars now use AI for peer review....

... make an argument why I should continue to do expert peer review??

(can't believe I'm asking this) 😢
Hot responses:
(1) are you sure they didn’t use LLMs to write the reviews? www.nature.com/articles/d41...
(2) LLMs entrench the conditions of overwork & burnout that cause the problem you identify while claiming to solve the problem. This is called “technosolutionism”
