tonight gmail suggested an entire email response about vowel analysis that

- suggests using a non-existent R package
- an analysis approach that is certainly *worse* than what was already being done.

it was deceptively easy: just expand the regex here to include IPA vowels. The bad news is it’ll be much more challenging to expand support to CELEX labels bacause of some overlap with CMU consonant labels

new-fave now supports both IPA and CMU label sets out of the box

a tip: if you use gh classrooms, *don’t* post assignment links on the open internet, cause anyone who clicks will get a fork of the assignment in your organization

for my quant/comp course, I use Canvas strictly for keeping track of grades & announcements, and all the content is on GH. I use github classroom, so i wind up spinning up an organization for each course, and put course notes etc on a gh page lin511-2026.github.io

Ah, I see. Plowing snow is just one more thing millennials have killed with our social media addiction I guess.

I guess without social media, we never would've seen the street outside our window remain iced over for 2 weeks!

Question: For a CompLing course that's includes intro-to-programming, I'm asking them to write a function (without regex) that returns True if a string is a^nb, False otherwise. Is that... too challenging?

I thought my architect friend was being hyperbolic when she said that we should stop putting indoor plumbing in houses... But I'm starting to agree

I’ve never been a Chomsky hater, to the annoyance of some! But this is really so unbelievably tarnishing

Chomsky on Foucault: “I'd never met anyone who was so totally amoral”

I guess Foucault didn’t retain that distinction forever

I'm grateful not to have any former academic advisors in the Epstein files.

i’d rant about the priority given to clearing snow from car infrastructure… except it seems like the city has also sort of given up on that?

i'd be surprised if at least Harvard & MIT hadn't already worked out internally who was emailing with him about what

clicking through to one file, the content is redacted, but the email sig with unredacted "ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY" would suggest yes

i really need to know if these academics with emails in the files were using the institutional email addresses.
