While we wait on the NITA Act to move through the house and senate tonight, here's a glimpse of one of my favorite provisions.

The areas in purple will have parking mandates removed for development (note, this is an early draft.... working out some kinks)

to go from the orange line to the waveland terminal on the Halsted bus at 5:50 pm on a weekday in 2004 took 45 minutes
in 2025 (prior to the viaduct reroute) the same trip took 65 minutes

the trip is almost 50% longer now, and that's with more than 30% fewer people riding it
people who are new to the city or young don't realize this but when uber & lyft started taking off traffic just got astronomically worse in a period of like 3 years, all those burrito taxis and unregulated cabs really get in the way of everything

Babe what's wrong you haven't touched your *senate passed transit bill* in months

On the bright side, your next DoorDash order will be $1.50 cheaper than it could've been and all those board members get to hold onto their little fiefdoms for at least a few more months, and ultimately isn't that more important than a functioning transit network for a major metropolis?
If the state passes a transit bill tomorrow, I will be disappointed that they waited until the literal last minute (again), but at least I'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

But if the transit funding doesn't go through at all, I am going to crash out.

yet another reason to hate the cemeteries
Rosehill Cemetery won’t let bikers ride around in there but they will allow ICE to stage for kidnappings!
got to Target minutes after ICE kidnapped someone. Spoke to people otg who said they were probably staging at Rosehill. Drove over to Rosehill, another patroller I saw was talking to an employee. Patroller said ICE was using A CEMETERY AS A HOME BASE for kidnapping people in our neighborhood.

The House and the governor's office had five months to get on the same page regarding revenue, and clearly they failed to do so. How the heck do we have a legislative supermajority + a generally agreeable governor and still fall short?? Advocates have been hounding them for MONTHS. So frustrating.

This is a fantastic write-up of our region's transit issues and why focus on the suburbs is Actually Important

(especially liked the note that there are about 4X as many suburb-to-suburb commuters as there are suburb-to-city commuters)

b..b..but the nimbys love loaves and witches and hate housing for trans people so it cancels out
No such thing as a trans ally NIMBY
Leni says they need to welcome folks fleeing those states.

That's right. My community in the south is fucking terrified. They are being genocided. Build more housing here.

it shouldn't have had to come to all this hate and vitriol over city procedure but in the end the city will allow itself to continue to grow and not shrink

nimbys are the fucking worst
Says they need to add more housing or rents will only continue to climb and people will not be able to move here and be safe as they need to be.

An audience member yells at Alison to "leave Edgewater alone" and is escorted out of the room.

The only trans speaker was heckled by far the most.

If you're in Edgewater/Uptown and like to see less strip malls on Broadway, there's a rally in front of the Riviera next Thursday to support the upzoning
