Apparently these businesses hate the idea of making more money from having an expanded customer base.

We should stop coddling business owners who make bad business decisions at the expense of literally everyone else.

Our streets will never be safe so long as these lawless thugs are allowed to continue invading our communities to kidnap and murder our neighbors.

Abolish ICE.

Title is misleading. They’re not “your” sidewalks. They belong to the city. The city burdens you with permits if you wanna put up an A-frame, but the moment it snows, maintenance is your responsibility. They can’t have it both ways.
Chicago should #plowthesidewalks

NEW: beginning january 1, chicago will ban unhoused people on the sex offense registry from seeking shelter on public transit.

it’s the latest in a concerted effort by mayor johnson’s admin to criminalize homelessness on cta trains + buses and in public parks during the coldest months of the year.

I took a picture earlier this week that I think encapsulates the isolation and danger of living in a city that doesn’t #plowthesidewalks and a neighborhood where reactionaries want to tear out an under-construction safety project on Archer Avenue.

It’s a message about priorities.

A once-in-a-generation investment that benefits everyone in our state.

Today, I’m proud to sign the Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act into law.

Our new regional authority will modernize Illinois’ transit systems — and we’re doing it with no new statewide taxes.

We've averted disaster and laid the groundwork for reforms which will improve transit for the Chicagoland region, and the entire state of Illinois, for generations to come.

Thank you to all the advocates who got us across the finish line, and here's to a brighter future under NITA! 🍾

It feels that winter and snow in Chicago helps widen existing inequities because those without cars are less able to move around safely on transit and on foot. Mobility justice is hampered with the city management and policies around snow clearance.

Bus stops are full of snow. It’s not an exaggeration to say if riding the bus part of your safety calculus rn should consider which bus stops are less obstructed w/ snow & also taking more time to board/disembarking. We are a winter city but the city management of winter leaves much to be desired.

Imagine a 100m race where we’ve given cars an 80m head start after many decades of building almost ONLY for them. If we then set a transportation goal of “balance” between many more choices in getting around, by definition we have to prioritize the new choices for a while, or they’ll never catch up.

On streets like Milwaukee with plowed protected bike lanes, there is an alternative when a business shirks their legal & moral responsibilities after a snowfall.
