Hamburg Hochbahn AG (Ubahn and buses in Hamburg) spends 669 million euros a year to move 421 million trips. Or about 1.5€ per trip.

The CTA spends 2.23 billion dollars to move about 365 million trips a year. Or about $6.10per trip.

Why does it cost 3x to run an American agency of similar size?

New year, new Hyde Park Divvy station.
Chicago’s newest Divvy bikeshare station just dropped at 53rd & Blackstone in Hyde Park! This is the first of many new stations coming to the South Side this year.

A textbook of bad street design:

✅ Curbside bus lanes, which never work

✅ Right turners can block bus lane

✅ Bikes and buses, which move at different speeds, share one lane

✅ Narrow sidewalk blocked by trees and posts.
I found this street diagram for a project in Las Vegas and damn its perfect for Aurora Avenue here in Seattle

🧵(1/2) Spotted a Beep AV Shuttle in DC. I believe these have a place in the mobility hierarchy like moving people on medical/college/airport campuses or serving as downtown shuttles. Might be a good way for smaller cities to have a more robust transit network.

Earlier this year, I descended into the bowels of the Barbican to take a look at the bespoke plumbing system for kitchen sink drainage, known as the Garchey.

Hi, I'm the center of a borderline EF-4 tornado. 🤷

Switzerland normally has 17 or 18 fire deaths a year, so 40 dying in one event is going to dramatically increase their numbers for 2026. So much so that they are likely going to end up at about 25% fewer fire deaths per capita than the US compared to their usual 80% fewer. ctif.org/sites/defaul...
40 people in a small country is going to have a substantial per-capita impact.
