I've been playing City Folk on emu with a fan-made Deluxe patch that, among a whole host of other things, removes grass deterioration which is the whole reason why I've never played too much of City Folk. Today I completed my first fossil at the museum!
A screenshot of Animal Crossing: City Folk. From the quality of the image, the image was taken on an emulator and is not a TV capture. The player is inside the town museum, standing behind a large fossilized skeleton of a T-Rex. The skeleton has it's jaws open wide, as if it were letting out a mighty roar. It's neck and tail are curved in opposite directions, so as to give it a more interesting silhouette. The color of the fossil is a very light brown, showing the skeleton's age. The fossil is propped up with black poles to keep it in place, which go into a black textured podium. The texture seems to suggest carpeting? Or perhaps rugged marble. Who can say, really, it is a Wii game after all. The podium is lined with a brown material, perhaps wood or bronze. Behind the player and the T-Rex fossil, are other similar podiums. However, these have nothing on them. The player character is rotund and light-skinned, wearing a pointy black witch's hat with a bright yellow crescent moon emblazoned on the front. On their face they wear a black mask that frames their eyes with fabric. Their eyes are wide and pitch black as well, with white sparkles in the irises to add an artistic flair commonly found in shoujo manga. Poking out from under the hat is a tuft of white hair, held up by an unseen band. If one is familiar with the hair styles of Animal Crossing, they will recognize the hairstyle as being twintails even though only one tail is visible. Part of the player's outfit is obscure by the T-Rex fossil's leg bones, but what is visible appears to be a pitch black dress with slightly lighter black flowing ribbons attached to it. Beneath the dress we can see the player's white socks, with what may be a small black bow tied around the ankle. The player's shoes are black flat pumps, with a band of (most likely fake) diamonds decorating the top. In the corner of the screen is a round clock displaying the date and time the picture was taken. But, we're out of character space.

one of my strongest held beliefs is that "the left keeps losing because we keep arguing among ourselves" is bullshit, but that is really being tested when folks can't extend a single branch of trust to an independent store that has been actively facilitating adult and queer art for over a decade

Unfortunately, it's not easy for pros working in manga (translators, letterers, editors) to speak up to the companies that employ them.

Why? Because speaking up will cost them their job.
Hell, I know freelancers who have lost work because they posted anti-AI sentiment on social media. (1/? ⬇️)

Over a decade ago I recorded for an indie visual novel.

A year later the lead developer had a falling out with the director over the lead dev's unprofessional behavior.

He then started pressuring me for lines I had already delivered, threatening legal action and to inform the gaming press.
An email from the project manager that reads: Hello, I am messaging you about the [redacted] voice acting lines. I still have not received any lines, or any explanation, after waiting more than a month for your response. If this was a misunderstanding, and you somehow forgot about, missed, or otherwise never received my other messages, then please contact me immediately so we can clear up this situation. Right now I have no proof that you recorded the full extent of the lines despite having been paid as stated on the contract. If you cannot send me the lines then I must request that you refund the full $400 USD that my studio paid you for the lines via Paypal to [redacted] as soon as possible. If for some reason you did record the lines but did not save them, then you can seek restitution with the voice director, [redacted]. If you are missing direction for some of the lines, then I would be glad to assist you with finishing the project. If you do not either send me the full lines for the project or refund the money, then I will be forced to take legal recourse based on the contract that you signed before the voice acting process. This is a legally binding contract and I will pursue whatever avenues are necessary to recover the payment. I will also have to inform the gaming press as well as the visual novel and [redacted] fan base about this lack of transparency and communication on your part. Thank you, My response to the email that states: Hello [redacted] [redacted mediafire link] I have included every line I have recorded for the [redacted] project. You will find that the majority of them are unedited, as that was what the original director requested. Should you need proof that I sent these lines when they were needed over a year ago, you may verify this with [redacted], or I can forward you the email, since I sent the original files to her then. I must say, I find your hostility in this email to be completely unnecessary. As far as I am aware, you've sent me two, maybe three emails on the subject, the majority of them while I was out of the country. There was no intention on my part of showing a lack of transparency, or to even withhold any of the lines. And quite frankly, I should not be responsible for your lack of communication with [redacted] and your inability to retrieve files that have been available to you for over a year. Threatening me with legal action, and suggesting you will inform the "gaming press" and the "visual novel/[redacted] fan base" about my behavior is both ludicrous and pointless. Given that I have evidence of sending my lines to [redacted] several months ago, some more than a year ago, if you were to go around telling people about this supposed infraction, I could very easily highlight your email saying that *you* should have asked [redacted] for the lines, which would obviously invalidate you holding that over me. I could also easily point out to the general public that this whole project has been handled in a completely unprofessional manner, primarily by yourself - this last email being a glaring example.
