Seriously, you need to read this. Last Saturday in Echo Park was nuts as cops preemptively invaded the area before the World Series was even over and assaulted people with batons, horses and tear gas. @shoton35mm.bsky.social pieced the violence together in fantastic reporting.
One man who was walking to Gold Room bar had to get surgery on his finger after being shot with a “rubber bullet.”

13 years ago today I took this photo walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. After Hurricane Sandy, power had been cut in lower Manhattan long enough for all of the emergency lighting batteries to die; this is the only photo you'll ever see of Manhattan with no lights on.

"giving people something to vote for instead of against" is like the #1 rule of successful electoral campaigning and yet, AND YET
The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.
