PFP: An otter (fuzzy aqua sausage creature) floating underwater with bubbles coming out their mouth. This particular otter has impressive whiskers.

Banner Image: An otter on land. Lil weirdo. Srsly, their eyes are bulging out like he's found cookies.

There's a Yiddish saying: "If hard work were so great, the rich would have kept it for themselves."

Ooooooh no. I just realized that the top 4 worst movies I've seen this year (so far) have **all** been musicals. 😭😭😭😭

I LOVE MUSICALS. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE. This trend toward making bad ones hurts. 💔

WHY DO MODERN MUSICAL FILM ADAPTATIONS (one was a pro shot actually!) STINK SO BADLY?!?

Eating coleslaw right out of the container and watching Superstore while my partner has a nap. I am content. This is nice. Just thought the Internet might want to know.

Boeing airplanes aren't falling apart because of black people, they're falling apart because C-suite executives are trying to maximize profits while pushing employees to meet impossible deadlines and not sufficiently staffing their quality control.

You should read this book. Its really good. Be warned though: you'll either come away from the book wanting to never eat apples again or be completely obsessed with apples and want to eat nothing but apples. I still don't want to eat them. But still! You should read this book.

So art isn't just the presentation, it is the interaction between the presentation and observer? Interesting idea.

Yes and... I think it broadly shows how vulnerable modern humans are (psychologically).

I don't actually believe that many people who've embraced Back to Normal necessarily find the status quo comforting so much as they find change scary. They are ill-equipped to deal with adapting or uncertainty.
Yes. We saw that we could do things differently. But then we got told that that was over and we had to go back to Normal.

I think that broadly it is people's attachment to the status quo that determines whether they found that comforting or terrifying.

I mean, IDK, the so-called left in my part of the world doesn't seem overly concerned about "doing better".

*glares at every so-called Ally who refuses to implement or even advocate for basic COVID safety measures*

*glares at every goddamned workplace with DEI "policies" but no WFH provisions*

The early days of the pandemic brought me so much hope, relief, and even perhaps joy?

Seeing people come together, slow down, care about each other... I actually thought we could finally change the world for the better and escape the pressures of hustle culture.

Being wrong has been heartbreaking
For a lot of people the expansion of the social safety net during the early stages of the pandemic was seen as a bonus, a little extra, etc. but for many others this was an essential and needed support to actually live their lives and I don’t think that’s appreciated.

One thing I am Trying Very Hard to undo is the fatphobia I've somehow ended up with (thanks a lot *gestures wildly at mainstream media, social media, misogyny, capitalism, fashion, basically the world*).

So please let me amplify this:
fat humans can be healthy.
non-fat humans can be unhealthy.
It's almost like weight and health aren't connected or something...

say it with me: DOCTORS. AIN'T. SHIT.

Always trust your own body. Always speak up and advocate for your care. And don't listen to annoying CBC shows that suggest rapping a fun song, begging on your knees, or "being hip" will get you a family doctor cause it won't.
*glares at Run the Burbs*
i dropped around 75 lbs in about the same time frame and all my doctors were congratulating me. i still don't know why cuz they don't see it as a problem. I was at a healthy weight for a while and now it's dropping rapidly again and the doctors are congratulating me again. doctors ain't shit

Don't. Comment. On. Other. Human's. Weights.
Just don't. Simple: DO. NOT.
They lost weight? Don't comment.
They've gained weight? Don't comment.
UNLESS you are close friends and KNOW about their goals and efforts, then please support + celebrate the eff out of their bad selves. 🎉

This isn't an exaggeration. Before Cockpit Resource Management became a thing, captains who acted like, and were deferentially treated like macho gods of the skies did things like let their planes run out of fuel or fly straight into the ground, and the other officers were too scared to stop them.
the "DEI pilots" thing is not only untrue, but the opposite of true. The piloting profession in the late 20th century was so dominated by one Guy Type that they had to invent a new kind of training that forced pilots to listen to their first officers so they would stop flying planes into the ground

having my own house has made a significant difference for my mental health condition / medical needs as well. it saddens me how housing affordable is also an accessibility and wellness issue, but nobody (in power) seems to understand that (or care). ugh. this world is the pits.
Me either! Having my own house has been the best thing ever just for stability of my medical needs.

I would help you lift it if I could! ❤️

Of course, nowhere near enough is being done. But it's important to note that progress is being made thanks to advocacy and activism. COVID is a long-term fight. And it's bigger than just COVID, this is about public health, and it's about equity and justice. Don't give up!

Mask requirements are being reinstated. Long COVID studies and hearings are being arranged. Messages about clean air are being disseminated. All of this is a result of amazing grassroots advocates, who have persistently pushed governments to do better for years. Advocacy works!
