Fascism is a defence of established power and privilege through the dehumanisation of anyone that challenges it.

humanity doesn't need to be educated into people

they already have it

it is the inhumanity of the civilised rational actor that must be taught

and it takes the rewards of privilege to motivate acceptance of membership of that elite class

this narrative is I think grounded in assuming that the role of the educator is a carceral one, an officer trying to catch students out and publicly shame/humiliate them for errors and violations

and that students contradicting this must be trying to take over that role and invert the hierarchy
This is an absolutely incredible thing to say. As someone in Ivy-ish (Duke) classrooms from 2016-2022… I call bull.

Person centered therapy was a big part of my mental health recovery and one of the things that really stuck in my mind was my therapist saying it was like I was looking for the manual that had all the right answers, and explaining how it can't be that simple.

The LLM is intended to be that manual.
“‘You think you are talking to an objective confidant or guide, but actually what you are looking into is some kind of distorted mirror — that mirrors back to your own beliefs,’ said Matthew Nour, a psychiatrist and researcher in neuroscience and AI at Oxford university.”

this grossly ignorant racism isn't the product of a lack of education

it's the product of an education in the academic ivory tower

it is deliberately disconnected from reality in order to claim superiority
That's a prosperous looking home with that vehicle and all. How many Jamaicans can afford to put up panels? Do they have to own their homes to do so? Do their homes need to be very sturdy, not shacks?

This past year, the situation facing intersex people in the UK (and some other parts of the world) has grown worse because of politically-inspired efforts to erase the biologically complex nature of sex. This has real world effects on people's lives; it is social anxiety enacted on intersex bodies.

unhoused people don’t fear there is nowhere to go. they KNOW there is nowhere to go: no safe shelters, no social safety net. being poor, homeless, disabled, medically vulnerable are all increasingly becoming criminalized and structurally treated as disposable, not human, “not our problem”
Mississippi's new laws targeting homeless people include:

-House Bill 1203, which prohibits camping on public property not designated for shelter, punishable by a fine up to $50.

-House Bill 1197, requiring people who solicit donations to obtain a permit that could cost up to $25 per day.

IMO a lot of the problem with AI in therapy comes from the view of therapy as mechanical rather than relational (e.g. CBT). You wouldn't ever plausibly think that AI could be useful in therapy unless you thought a meaningful ongoing therapeutic relationship with another human being was unimportant.

I remember going to events run by charities, activists and other concerned parties in the mid 90s when this was flagged as a major safeguarding concern and huge injustice. Many involved in health and social care, youth justice and policing held the view young people were complicit in their abuse

all i’ve heard for the last 20 years is ‘we must finally be allowed to talk about immigration’.

all i’ve heard for the last 10 years is ‘we must finally be allowed to talk about the trannies’.

it’s always the same ppl saying it and it’s always just bigotry.
I keep seeing supposedly progressive podcasts saying “the problem is that people feel like they just can’t talk about these issues” while these issues are frequently the *only* thing that people are talking about 😩
Am struggling with the idea that people like me somehow don't understand the legitimate concerns of people who attended the Tommy Robinson march. I literally had National Front fliers through my letterbox in my childhood in Greater London and I went to school and university with actual fascists.
