KFF’s @larrylevitt.bsky.social advises signing up now, because once enrollment open ends you won’t have another chance.
You can sign as a hedge, in case a deal is passed, and decide to drop out later if there’s no deal.

I may sound like a broken record on this but that's the nature of trauma: every one of these children will be traumatized for life. For life.

My own separation from my mother via immigration was just about the gentlest imaginable version... and it's still the central truth of my adult life. I'm 60.

Congress wrote into the law that someone who overstays a visa while applying for asylum is not considered to be accruing “unlawful presence,” but it didn’t explicitly say those people couldn’t be arrested and detained — because it was presumed that they wouldn’t be. Well, Trump is doing it.
We came to LA as refugees from the USSR in 1991. Life wasn’t easy, but we persevered and, I dare say, came to contribute something of worth to this nation.

Had I experienced the following when I was a boy, I don’t know what would have become of me.

New in PN: @mattgertz.bsky.social on the Orbanization of the press

"Everyone just accepts that of course the FCC will only allow a merger if it goes to a person that Trump wants to own it. That’s a very precipitous decline in our broad public assumptions of how govt power is supposed to be wielded"
The Orbanization of the American press
"The really unnerving thing is Trump using state power to influence who a company gets sold to," Matt Gertz tells us.

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

When they say Trump calling a reporter "piggy" is "just being honest," they are revealing a key feature of the reactionary mind: it believes, at a deep brainstem level, that *everyone* is awful & selfish & ugly on the inside. Everyone just suppresses it out of fear of social disapproval. Not Trump!

I won't start ranting about it because I just get myself worked up, but quickly: I literally can not think of an investment of public funds that has a higher return than *cleaning the indoor air in schools*. It's so easy, so cheap, & has such HUGE payoff. Criminal that we basically don't do it.

We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.

This morning on NPR a reporter referred to the exploited children in the Jeffrey Epstein case as "underage women."

In other situations, where young boys have been exploited, I don't think I have ever once heard those children referred to as "underage men."
