when you're pretty sure the supreme court will find a way to overrule you, it's a funny move to include prominent bolded quotes from John Roberts

Texas getting its gerrymander blocked while California and Virginia eliminate 8-9 Republican seats would be a stupendous, comical outcome.

Yeah I mean what *should* a 55 year old man give his 21 year old girlfriend if not slightly less fungible wads of cash
Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a writing studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her a lot of Gift Certificates from Kmart?

If you want larger homes in urban areas to be available and affordable to young families then you need to build a LOT of studio and one-bedroom apartments. Otherwise, groups of adult roommates will outbid them for the 2- and 3-bedroom units in walkable neighborhoods.

You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

i'm dismayed at how pained he apparently is at the prospect of retaliation

the aims of justice and retaliation are often divergent, but in this case, they are not. by holding these people to account, we will *necessarily create a better society*, simply as a necessary byproduct of that endeavor

This take suffers from the same thing as all discourse about Trump voters: an inability to distinguish swing voters from Trump’s base. You should welcome the swing voters, people who were worried about inflation or whatever, but the chuds? The best you can do is bullying them into staying home.

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

Wow. So are they ready to say he’s a bad president?
CEOs speak up.

“.. This has been an exhausting year, I’d say, for most CEOs .. The level of executive time that’s been put in this has been enormous. So instead of focusing on innovation, they’re focusing on how they deal with the tariffs.”

THAT'S LITERALLY HOW THE SUBSIDIES & ACA EXCHANGES WORK ALREADY.

CONSUMERS ARE INFORMED BY COMPARING POLICIES ON THE ACA EXCHANGES, THEN THEY PURCHASE ONE AND THE GOVERNMENT PAYS SOME OR ALL OF THE COST OF THAT POLICY.

I'M TEARING THE LITTLE HAIR I HAVE ON MY HEAD OUT.
Cassidy: "The president is proposing that we take the $26b that would be going to insurance companies if we just do an extension and give it directly to the American people in which 100% of the money is used for them to purchase healthcare on their own terms. That makes them an informed consumer."

Puzzling that the centrist pundits who are arguing for a "big tent" Democratic Party are the same people who spend all their time on social media attacking the left. The Venn diagram of these two groups is practically a circle.
Meanwhile, if you take Dems and subtract the left, you get 2000 and 2024

People want to believe that the GOP’s electoral success in red states is the result of dirty tricks and gerrymandering instead of the sincerely held beliefs of a majority of the population because a mechanical issue is easier to fix than wrestling with how to make people not believe what they do.
