The bummer is, I strongly suspect that the lesson that Labour will learn from this is "acting with confidence to please your base is bad" not "nobody likes the shit that these clowns were trying to do".
Wow! It usually takes at least two terms for voters to come to that conclusion! #nzpol
Nu Ziland has decided, this government are fuckin' toast! #NZPol

IIRC the actual phrase "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is a *mockery* of that attitude, because it illustrates the absurdity of the sentiment.
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

I really liked "Prospect" (2018) for this - it implies a whole bunch of fascinating stuff about the wider universe, but never gets bogged down explaining stuff that doesn't matter.

Gotta say, I’m not so confident that you do

Name an album with an animal on the cover.

The secret best Van Morrison album, complete with enormous Irish wolfhounds (I think)

Things been complicated lately, me and the missus talk about how (and why there's not a more normal episode) on this week's "Sick and Tired Aotearoa" for @mpr.nz
Sick and Tired Aotearoa Episode 10 - Life update
This week we move away from our usual format to bring you half an hour of discussion on the issues I am currently having with capacity. It's a bit of a rant, but hopefully entertaining and perhaps eve...

This is entirely correct (and I said so in the thread) but also attempting to avoid the duty of criticism by saying something is "not" also robs the artist of the creative transgression of insisting that it *is*. Like, Metal Machine Music is much more interesting if it's both sincere *and* a troll.
i wish people would be substantially more careful with their choice to dismiss art/games they don't like as "not art / not a game"

For this mask I was asked to make a burnt orange Goblin mask with a moving jaw. It's all hand carved, dyed, and painted leather sitting at around 10 oz in thickness

I'm pretty happy with how it came out and might make myself a version of it to take on the field

NZ electricity reached 99.9% renewable on 25 October, I believe that is a record. And that's despite a tenth of geothermal capacity appearing to be out of action (maintenance?) since the start of October. Source: em6
