One way I have found to mourn someone is to set up a monthly sustaining donation to a mutual aid effort they cared about. If you can join me in honoring Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social with a sustaining donation today, please do. Thank you Alice, and I will not let the bastards grind me down.

A few years ago myself and some crip friends read Disability Visibility as the first book in our book club. Alice heard about it, over on the bad place, and sent us signed book plates. May her memory be a blessing and a revolution.

Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

Just learned that @sfdirewolf.bsky.social passed on

If you didn't know much about Alice Wong, they were a disability rights activist.
A couple years ago, read their 'Disability Visibility' book of essays— definitely worth reading

This has always been one of my favorite quotes of Alice's. I think it explains the easy affinity between disability communities, queer communities (forged in the shadow of AIDS) and Palestinian communities (formed in the shadow of genocide): death is our "intimate shadow partner"—& so is love.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

How fortunate we have been to live in the world Alice Wong helped make possible. If you want to honor her memory, a small thing you can do is wear a mask to protect yourself and others from respiratory illness.

If I was unclear as to what the movie is, it's called Daughters of the Dust (1991).

You can rent and/or buy it on Amazon Prime, DVD, or Apple TV

And you really should

Happy birthday to Julie Dash 🙏🏾

I've never been big on Hasan Piker as a streamer - though that's because I'm not into live streams - but I'm glad he's still using that status to criticize the actions of Israel and those who support it (despite the *obviousness* of how wrong such actions are).
Holy shit the rants Hasan goes on in his streams are now making it into Variety (no lies detected btw)

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.

Because the NYT is a fascist propaganda rag at this point masquerading as legitimate news. I'm sure there's many fine journalists there but the complete abdication of journalistic integrity by management/editors has eroded public trust and demonstrates it's all lip service. We have no free press.
The question everyone is asking right now is this: NYT had deep access into all of this in real time and reported none of it. Why? In consequence, no NYT reporting on this subject is trustworthy.

The manoomin fact sheet I made a few years back for @anishinaabekdem.bsky.social, why not. Roger is quoted at the very end. Can't quick find the larger version where I more prominently featured his words.

Super cool that recognition was fought for and won. ♥️🌾💧
