It was a major mistake that the Senate didn’t hold high-profile hearings and investigations into the corrupt Roberts Court when ProPublica was breaking the scandals.

Now that same corrupt Court is blowing up NIH, NSF, and all of US basic science.

Our failure to pick a big fight with the Court 1/
look at what this leadership did with oversight powers of SCOTUS in the middle of multiple devastating scandals for the conservatives. look at the half assed impeachments and half-assed oversight during the teens.

But I thought we were going to talk about health care when the government opened back up
UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

I might be interested in shopping around for the best prices on a purse.

When I bought a car last year, it was an incredibly miserable experience. So much so, I don't think I want to buy a car again for the rest of my life.

I do not want to do this for every medical appointment.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

But also, I told you when used effectively shame works. The problem is Elon isn't shamed by normal things like the weight of being responsible for the deaths of 600,000 people, or being a white supremacist or whatever. Oates just landed on a pressure point.

sitting aside the obvious lies, no one wants to negotiate their own insurance.

this is not fun. we do not like it.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Hassett: "I think it's back on the table to think about what to do with those tariff revenues. I'm sure the president will discuss with congressional leaders whether because of all of the extra tax revenue, there is more room to get checks back to people."

When CA launched Prop 50, it was polling at 38%. And so, we did it anyway. Winning campaigns requires that your GOALS define your actions, recognizing opinion - including who agrees to vote - is malleable. In other words, be a thermostat, not a thermometer.

this is my pet peeve. OMG. just clarify terms and explain things clearly as if you were talking to newcomers.
Speakers, don’t assume the knowledge level of your audience. If you have a new person there and you say “I assume everyone here is familiar with this” they don’t learn anything and they probably feel bad about themselves. Better to just explain the thing. The people who are familiar with it can deal

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

No matter how they voted last night, every one of them has a say in maintaining Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin as their caucus leaders. Every one of them is accountable here.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.
