🎵 Falling down, now…
Drunken clown, now… 🎵
Joke of the day from Moscow: Russia tried to unveil its first humanoid AI robot, Aidol. Key word: tried. The robot collapsed during its debut, forcing organizers to cut the presentation short. Their rushed attempt to lift the prop only made things worse.

I thought it was cute that when Skyfall was mentioned on the last two episodes of @blankcheck.bsky.social (Llewyn Davis and Hail Ceasar), both special guests automatically started singing the Adele theme song.

you can't just bring back austin powers. the franchise wrote itself into a corner after he volunteered to stay behind forever in the shagadelic dimension to save foxxy and vanessa. they already brought him back once without explaining how he escaped from fembot island, the audience won't buy it

Yeah, I didn’t care for TFA (the Empire coming back without explanation was a mortal wound) but I liked the characters/cast/etc and was glad it set the stage for more interesting explorations to follow.

I got exactly that with TLJ (which was more interesting than good), and then KABOOM.
I thought TFA was a mediocre film that developed some interesting characters; the core plot is really uninteresting, but I left the theater excited about how Rey and Finn would progress in later films. Sadly, the next two movies answered that question.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

Bond's more-or-less complete lack of coherent canon is the best thing about the character and I'm worried the Americans are going to America-brain it

"JAMES BOND" IS NOT A CODENAME. HE ALREADY HAS A CODENAME. IT IS 007. RESIST THE URGE TO CANONISE STUFF. CANONISATION IS THE MIND KILLER. CANONISATION IS AMERICAN

The tension between art, consumer reporting, and so many idiots only wanting to read propaganda for something they’re already simping for.
"I disagree about knocking the game so many stars, seemingly exclusively due to the use of generative AI." Terrific, that's called reasonable disagreement on the merits of the argument being made. If a game has bad optimization, do we knock it a star? Two stars? Three?

God knows I had my problems with Discovery, but I loved Martin-Green, l loved having a lady named Michael, and I loved her hair journey over the course of the series (really, it was the most consistent characterization she had)

Yep.

And like Into Darkness before it, Abrams came back with a sequel so bad that it killed all interest in that iteration of the franchise and salted the earth.
I find it so disheartening. Yeah, the trilogy ended badly, yada yada. But TFA made 2 *billion*, and that doesn’t just come from one-time looky loos ensnared by hype. People LOVED that movie. If they hadn’t, this whole post-Lucas experiment would have been over practically before it began.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon
