Bummed to hear that The Running Man is an upteenth Edgar Wright tonal mess, but, hey, at least Katy O'Brian got a paycheck.

God knows I had my problems with Discovery, but I loved Martin-Green, l loved having a lady named Michael, and I loved her hair journey over the course of the series (really, it was the most consistent characterization she had)

I remember this issue of Star Wars Insider being on our kitchen table the night Elise half-jokingly (but only half) yelled at all of us for wasting so much of our time and attention on such a terrible movie after we got back from our opening night screening of The Phantom Menace:

Yeah, I had a few issues of Bantha Tracks as a kid, subscribed to the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine right as they were starting up the Willow press machine, and then wandered away when the magazine went bonkers trying to put Young Indy over.

Saw someone raving about how "incredible" Illuminations designs for the Mario movies have been, and I guess it's not hard to find anyone who'll glaze *anything* on the internet.
These mild reinterpretations aren't actively bad or anything, but it's weird that anybody would be AMAZED by this.

I'm always on the lookout for a good magic trick, to the point there's a shot in the first episode of Pluribus that unfolds in the reflection of the display glass of a snack machine that had me going HEY, WAIT A SECOND, WHERE IS THE GODDAMNED CAMERA (and also something similar in Frankenfurter)

I dunno, I never like the lack of a central character’s forethought “being the point” when it feels more like a bug in the writing rather than a feature.
Even Willy Wonka had the ambition to show off his creation, Poe Dameron just chucks it into a pit and turns into Mama Fratelli for no reason.

Fell asleep last night watching someone playing through the Resident Evil remake on GameCube, and was reminded of how incredible an idea it was to make all the backgrounds beautifully pre-rendered gifs.

There must've been some kind of generational regime change at commercial agencies at the turn of the decade, seeing as SO many commercials aimed at kids in the 80s were created by boomers who equated the 50s = youth & coolness, but in the 90s it suddenly became the big thing to make fun of that shit

Interesting how the only real changes Illuminations keeps making to the characters is around the eyes (in this case, less rounded and a more trapezoid-shaped housing for Yoshi's eyeballs)

Movies I’ve seen before, but just not I a good long while? Hard Boiled or Fargo, maybe.
Old movies I’d never seen at all until this year? The Sound of Music.
I’m not absolutely in love with it, but Knives Out is great in it and it just *looks* so damned gorgeous.

I *did* like this detail in del Toro’s Frankenweenie (also the fact that Mia Goth is worth her weight in gold in anything she does AND just happens to look a lot like the first nanny from Mary Poppins)

So it’s come to this: AI-generated concept art for the new AI-generated Coca-Cola commercial, created after the fact as part of an ad comparing just flat-out fucking lying about how that commercial was made:
